What's the best way to go about cleaning a velvet chair and the best cleaner. I know drying time is important. Thanks

Velvet is a weaving style. Velvet can be made from several different fibers. You should at least know if it is natural / cellulosic (cotton or rayon) or synthetic.

Also helpful to know the age of the piece and what level of soiling and use it has been exposed to.

Both types require significant amount of grooming / brushing during the drying process.

If uncertain about the type, use something with a mild pH. Boost with solvent if there is a lot of hair oil and skin oil to remove. Dwell time. Mild agitation.

Fast drying through use of a dry tool and /or air movement will be critical with the natural and cellulosic fibers.

Scott has great tips for you.

I'd only add not to clean too far without grooming. You can walk into homes and often see a piece was cleaning but not groomed quickly enough. Do a panel and groom it, then move to the next.

The outside panels dry super fast because there is very little padding there. Groom them quickly.

Synthetic responds better and cleans far easier than natural fiber and blends.

When in doubt...punt! :winky:

I love cleaning velvet. Use a gentle cleaner, I use Judson O2, vac, prespray, gently scrub, rinse and brush it out. They look great after. Don't see velvet much anymore, just cheap microfibre. This chair is from the 70's

Check with Sunbelt.
I was getting it shipped up here and it was costing around $100/gal CDN, count yourself lucky at 62. 1 gal goes a long way. I use a lot of Slop&Gobble, sometimes on microfibre. But O2 works fantastic on microfibre. even takes pen off it.

I agree with Mike. I would not use on upholstery as IMHO it will require heavy rinsing. Better products available.

In addition to what others said:
When cleaning velvet, clean (move tool) with the nap direction.
Do not do back & forth movement with tool.
Groom to each sides and last with nap.

Pray and exercise finger crossing :winky:
