okay, all. Lead elf used Releasit DS2 to clean a wool rug.
As he extracted, it all turned brown. Some places more than others.

So, he next tried an acidic cleaner made for Haitian cotton to prevent cellulosic browning. It "helped some, but now it is off-white instead of light blue."

The owner has tried to clean it before, so perhaps he provoked some kind of reaction.

What should he do next?

Pictures?

Was the Haitian cotton cleaner one that contains a reducing agent?

Is the white color from cleaning agent residue or does it appear to be color loss?

You can call me at my office tomorrow at 800-342-2297, ext 107 tomorrow or tonight on my cell 412-414-9129

Here is how it looks. It was light blue with off-white stripes!

Incredible, I don't believe I've ever seen a drastic color change like that on a rug. Upholstery yes, and it was a strong ammonia precondition (high ph) that burned it. Two beige chairs and it turned them pink. Misted with an acid and wiped to correct.

Do you have the rug? Can you test it with a tannin spotter? Just a few fibers to see if it reacts.

Take it to a rug cleaning plant and then see.
Probably have to give her the $100 she paid for it.

Thank you is enough Stephen, and you probably will be able to solve the problem with products you already have.

If its worth your while to do business with me in the future, we can talk about that later. I just want to see if we can save this, and I think we have a shot at it now.

I agree. The browning is a result of overwetting. Use a strong acetic acid to rinse. Extract THOROUGHLY. Air dry rug upside down using blowers and a dehumidifier.

Post photos of how it looks afterwards. I'll be happy to help further, if needed.

I would start with a all fiber rinse, but some of these rug chemicals have strippers and oxidizers. Blues can be susceptible to color loss.

Here's hoping it's not color loss but residue. And still brown from over wetting.
Jim Pemberton helped me with a challenging wool this year and his recomendation to use all fiber rinse a couple times brought all the browning out.

Yes, I'm curious what you did. I had told you that the browning is a result of overwetting. I had suggested that you use a strong acetic acid to rinse. Extract THOROUGHLY. Air dry rug upside down using blowers and a dehumidifier.

Andrew elf used DS2 to scrub it and then extracted it to clean. When he did, it turned brown.

Jim Pemberton was kind enough to advise me, then Andrew. Andrew bought a gallon of Fab Set from our local pimp, Dixie Steamway. Fab Set is an acidic nuetralizer made by Bridgepoint and sold by Interlink.

Andrew treated the rug, then flipped it upside down and set a blower under it to dry. I guess the brown wicks back up to the backing. We really got a wake up on this one!

Many thanks to Jim and you other guys for the help.

OK. So you basically did everything I advised you to do.

Nice work. Rug looks very good now.
