Covering wood floor?

I've tried covering wood floor with moving blankets (kept bunching up) and tried drop cloths (bunched up also) what are some tips on covering those wood floors.
I think me fighting with those dumb coverings looks worse then not covering them at all. just starts looking like a mess.

I cleaned a house where the painters put down paper on all the hard wood , I ran my hose and tools all over the second floor and never even ripped that paper one time.
