Crazy idea for blower mod

So Ive got this sutorbilt 4mp laying around that I don't care about...

What would happen if I took it to a machine shop, and had them bore out the 2.5" ports to 3"?
Would it flow more air at higher rpm?

or just ruin it?

These blowers are of the positive displacement type, meaning the amount of air they move is determined primarily by the trapped space (displacement) between the lobes as they turn. You might see a tiny improvement due to less restriction, but certainly not worth the expense of the machine work. Not to mention all the inlet plumbing would have to be opened up, not just the blower inlet.

Dan's right on the above. If you increased the plumbing size, you'd get less restriction, but not more CFM.

However, that lowered restriction would result in lowered consumption of the available lift the blower generates...
