Any suggestions. Cleaned carpet tile at a bowling alley and it was a light brown stain I couldn’t get up. Any suggestions on chemical and process to remove?

If it's the same size of the mat, it may be off gassing from either the carpet tile or the mat. Probably not coming out. You could try a little browsing treatment or yellow out. If no results, rinse and try an oxidizing product.

Dang, haven't heard "off gassing" for years. See it frequently, (I think), but trying to explain it to customer was impossible! Carpet Cleaning isn't rocket science, but trying to explain that one was not happening. I literally haven't used that word for years. Good call.

Browning treatment is for browning on natural fibers and oxidizing products are made for organic spots and stains.

I didn't know off gassing came from petroleum based rubber. I just remember reading about the latex office mats causing that.

I want to use a red pad on it next time I come back. I'm just not sure what chemical will be best to work on it

It is likely a permanent stain. Try adding a compatible oxidizing booster to your prespray of choice, allow as much dwell time as practical, and rinse extract with as much heat as possible. You might "lessen the intensity" of the stain at best.

Other than that, Fred C gave you good advice.

I used Harvard's Power Strike mixed with a chemical enzyme and the SDS says not to mix it with any oxidizers. I felt it was best at the time, due to the heavy foot traffic from the parking lot.

Can you give me more of a reason as to how an oxidizing booster will help a petroleum based stain? The carpet is carpet tiles

My customer said the same thing about putting the mat back, but I like to teach myself this stuff in case I get a customer who isn't as laid back as this guy

I'm glad you are watching compatibility.

Oxidizers tend to help decolorize the yellow/brown oil stain. I've dealt with this issue since the last time inflation was this high, and tried everything.

This is the only way I found to put a dent in it...but nothing has been a perfect cure.

Carpet tiles were meant to be rotated and replaced as necessary.. Off-gassing to Ozone fading to actual auto tires stored on carpet.. My friend had some nice circles in his living room due to the latter.. Good luck my favorite Georgian..

Just keep throwing mud at it like I do permanent ink in classrooms. Pretty soon it just gets lighter and lighter. Then they start over.

But if it’s not, what’s you guys’ thoughts on using rubbing alcohol?

the few that I've had the best success with, I've misted perc on, given dwell time, then presprayed heavy with oxy booster, rinsed etc

but same approach also hasn't budged some.. 🤔

When off-gassing and BHT yellowing was a big thing, Steamway developed Yellow Eliminator to fix it. Today a similar product can be found at Winsol Labs, called Carpet Renewer.

If the problem really is off-gassing, it will usually go away if the mat is removed and the carpet is exposed to full spectrum light

There's an insight into Hawaiian, or at least your friend's, lifestyle. ...did they go away when exposed to sunlight?

No, I told him to put the tires back on the petroleum oil based stains.. MF thinks I’m a carpet God.. Told him I could replace it if or when he needs it done.. It’s a rental he’s renting with carpet 20+ years old..

The thing that really chaps my a$$ is when Ozone fading happens in our tropical climate.. (Wherever air touches the carpet, the blue dye disappears and your left with original color under any furniture that “air” hasn’t touched).. Then the ol’ geezers are arguing with me saying that’s not the original color..

Funny how carpet in a packed closet is the same color when you move the furniture, but that’s not the original color.. If you tell me the sky is green, I learnt to nod and agree.. Some Matt’s aren’t worth the time or energy to “mansplain” it..
