Deodorizer/Disinfectant first or stainguard?

Just curious if it really matters after cleaning a carpet or piece of upholstery if you apply the deodorizer/disinfectant first or a Scotchgard type first. I usually apply the DEO first then the scotchgard then broom it all in.

Just don't apply cationic disinfectant with protector or you will have a mess.

I was going to protect, I would apply the odor product only where needed, clean than protect.

Protectors work best with the least foreign materials between them and the fiber.

I find that applying both, in whatever order, over wets carpet and fabric, and at least dilutes the protector, and nearly always renders it less effective.

Most deodorization is for pets, and most of that's subsurface, localized treatment. Any other topical treatment should be applied before cleaning.

If you have doubts, test it yourself.

Protector works better if applied to dry(er) carpet/fabric. If the carpet is already saturated, it won't be able to absorb the protector, and it'll just evaporate, and or leave behind a residue making the carpet stiff.
