Do any of you Slippery Pete's have your tires siped for extra traction in the winter?

I'm thinking of going with an all season Cooper HT3 in the spring which have lots of siping, and I would have our local tire shop add some additional siping on the center treads rather than swapping out from summer and winter tires..

I have tried all weather tires, (not the same as all season) and wasn't happy with them. Great traction in the snow, which we don't usually have a lot of here, but I found they weren't great in the rain and a summers worth of driving would wear them down quickly. I have gone back to all season light truck tires that give ok traction in the snow but better traction in regular conditions.

We have lots of Tire shops here that do siping. Usually adding it on tires that are somewhat worn. Breaks up the tread blocks and gives you a little more traction. They usually do it to existing snow or all terrain tires. You can't make a snow tire out of summer tires.

had to google...

What is the disadvantage of tire siping?

Tire siping will not increase the tires' life. In fact, it will shorten it. The additional slits will cause move tread movement, causing heat build-up. The tread design is already optimized by the manufacturer and siping the footprint will cause the warranty to be voided
.

don't know anything about them, haven't run anything but hi-mileage (50-60K) all season radials on every vehicle in 40 years or more.
We get plenty snow here, I driven in some hellatious snow storms too.
as long as I don't pull into a drive or parking lot with 6-8" of snow
(4"-5" in the Bee-Bopmobile) I've never had problem getting around.

One thing's for sure, If I thought I needed siping, I buy an OEM one, not pay some tire jockey to cut up a new tire

if I thought I might get stuck in a hi-mountain pass, think I'd have tire chains

so helpful

What do you actually do?
I never bother with any of those things. I dont even swap between summer and winter tires like you do either. I just drive safely and proactively. If roads are completely iced over and they hadn't sand it yet, I dont go out til they do. I just wait the crash derby to be done before i head out...
