Square has another app for th phone that calculates the fees up as well.. I don't charge the customers the extra fee now....

I think its rude.... But some do.... Maybe I should???

As I understand it unless you advertise your prices as Cash Prices you are breaking the law for charging extra for the processing fees.

I would tend to believe this to be true because the banks do have some pretty good pull in Washington.

I am not a lawyer but I am pretty sure this is correct.

As I recall, you can discount for cash, but if you agree to accept CC as payment you accept terms to not pass fees onto card users.

In many cases you can have a min charge for use of CC.

Might vary state to state.

You can charge for debit transactions when a pin is used.

But to answer your question... No.

Calculate your fees for a year based on cc charges.

Divide this by the number of all jobs you did last year.

Add this amount into each job you do from now on.

Basically, you will be charging each customer a small percentage of the normal fee whether they use cc or not.

Add this amount into your 3 monthly price increase every quarter.

Cash or check only here for the last five years.

I work too hard for my money to just give it away.

Edit: I do plan on taking them eventually.

It adds up fast.

Guess how much I have paid in fees or percentages in the last five years?

Zero.

Ever have customers call you from out of town to clean a rental or a vacation home? What about someone moving out? Taking a credit card sure makes me feel better since I've been burned before. I'll take a hit on a small fee/percentage knowing I'll be paid.

Many of our larger accounts pay with the cards. Beats waiting 45 days or more for a check from Witchita or somewhere.

The "no fees" total Daniel has saved have no doubt been far exceeded by the "no sale" total he doesn't even see...from NOT taking cards.

I say if the fees are adding up because you are doing so many sales with credit cards then you don't have much to worry about. I find credit users typically buy alot more than the cash and check people.

The only thing you really have to worry about is th Guvmnt getting the percentage forulas from our taxes now that the credit card companies have to inform them on your sales and if your cash, check to credit card ratio doesn't match up you got more problems than fees.

I resisted to...mostly because i didnt do enough work to justify a monthly expense..

but with square and 0 monthly, and smaller then most %, i decided to do it....

and yes its a little weird having a few bucks not added to the bank numbers....

but ill get over it...

And like Lee said...I have a few more businesses asking about it.

no more 30 days...yay

PS To answer the original question" "NO". The few bucks made are not remotely worth ticking off your customers. Get the big picture when setting your prices. IF you truly need to charge more- do so. But don't "nickel and dime" people. (It ticks them off- even if they don't say anything.)

Eventually I will take them, but for now it is not a problem at all.

It has not been a problem so far.

My fees were ridiculous and I got so sick of companies calling me trying to get me to sign up with their service that I lost interest.

Re: Do you charge your customers the credit card processing

daniel try http://www.squareup.com................ cheap fees, no credit check........ did i say cheap fees?

If you enter credit card numbers manually, Square costs 3.5% + 15¢ per transaction.
Now when you swipe a card with Square there is just one fee: 2.75%. What you see is what you pay

no monthly or yearly fees.. free credit card swiper as well,,,,, no one can beat the trans rate when swiped..

That sounds good.

When I participated there were equipment rental fees, monthly minimums, and the fees on some cards were over 4 percent.

I am clueless.

What is a square?
