Dog Vomit Odor

I had a customer call Monday saying she was having trouble removing odor from a dog vomit spot on an area rug. When I got there, no visible sign of the vomit was present. I could also barely smell the vomit. I did smell the cleaner she had used to remove it.

I soaked the area that the vomit with lemon DD12 from Judson and let it dwell for about 15 min. I cleaned the front and back of the carpet and sprayed DD12 on the front and back again. I asked the home owner to see if she could smell the odor. She could not when she got next to the carpet, but she said she could smell it on the other side of the room.

She called a bit ago and said she is still smelling the vomit odor. I asked her to mist some white vinegar on the area and let it stand for about 30 min and then put some baking power on the carpet and work it in. I told her I would stop by tomorrow afternoon to see how things are.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

See if you can use a black light to locate any other areas in the room that the odor might be.

Treat them with the quat a lot and go from there.

This might be a psychological odor that she thinks she smells.

If that doesn't do it tell her to open the windows and air it out.

I've had good success with OSR for the same problem, 20-30
minutes dwell time & rinse.

Agreed!
I would add she needs to give the dog a bath(suggest this VERY carefully). it may be on him as well.

I'm glad I posed this question. I didn't even think about the dog needing a bath.

I would have choose Quat-A-Lot and applied it the way you did the DD12 as my first choice to get rid of the cause and if it required a followed up visit I would have used the DD12 (with it's fragrance) then. I would have then sprayed the DD12 very lightly and left.

She could be experiencing a known documented phenomenon called psychological odor. The odor is actually gone but she has a memory of it. If you confront a customer with this it will be met with a doubt as to your credibility so don't say anything about it and just try this.

If the place has forced air ventilation put a very small amount of couple of DD12 into the heating inlet vent(ss in the room. If it has baseboard electric heat put some under the baseboard heater where it will get heated.

Get the rug professionally Washed. A good soaking should take care of it. Maybe send it to the guys in todays picture.

When I went back this afternoon, I too could smell the vomit faintly.

I flushed the front and back and extracted with a water claw. I did the same to the pad.
At this point I could no longer smell the vomit. I soaked the area with Quat a Lot and let it dwell for 15 min. I then flushed with water and clawed it up again. I could no longer smell the vomit and niether could she.

Thanks for the advice guys.

You remember Nancy Kerrigan? Whhhhhy? Whyyyyyyyyy? Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Well whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy do you people NOT listen to the best odor control specialist out there? By the way, that is me.

Rinse the rug well....use Odorcide. Collect your check and expect referrals.

Really this is not rocket science.

Agreed - we've used everything under the sun - nothing beats the Odorcide 210. Though its a bit expensive, we'll only use it when/where required
