I was originally going to add this on to the mattress cleaning thread, but decided it might need its own. Everyone should know this and I am surprised it didn't cross my mind. I just assumed because no one was living there the heat would be shut off.
So below is a continuation of the original conversation in the other thread.
Oh it gets better. One of the cushions got burnt. Probably dang near burnt the house down. I hope I can have pictures for you soon...
A little background. No one was living in the house. Empty. A rental type of thing she is setting up. There are thermostats all over the house, I probably saw 4 or 5, so I suppose this is why I didn't think of the fireplace being an issue. Especially because no one is living there right now.
So I cleaned the carpet in the house and then cleaned the couch and cushions and hide a bed. Just used water on the couch, no prespray. It wasn't really dirty, she just had it in storage. Anywho, after the cleaning, it had the bed in it too so I had that all stretched out so it could dry. The cushions I had already washed so I told my helper to go stand them up on end to the side of the fireplace. Before everyone tells me I'm a dumbass I already know thanks! But dish it out anyways
So I looked over at the fireplace and she had a cushion on each side and one on the front, then pillows kind of stacked around the cushions. Looked good to me.
While I was cleaning I unplugged the cord going into the fireplace and plugged it back in before I left. Never occurred to me that it might kick on at some point. It did at some time in the next 24 hours and burnt a hole in the bottom of the cushion. I took the lady her bill the next day at her work and she mentioned it to me. I told her I won't charge her for cleaning the couch. She said she will look over the bill and get back to me. I told her that is fine just let me know what is fair for her. She said she is still able to use it, just flipped the cushion over (It is the same on both sides, one of those ugly old white couches with flowers all over it).
Wonderful learning experience
I asked her to send me some pictures of it so I am waiting on that. It may be half the cushion is burnt, it may just be a small hole. I am curious. She made is sound like it was big but then kind of said it was just fine cause she scraped the burnt stuff off and flipped it over.
