My machine kept bogging down today. Shut off. Back fired. I thought the engine blew up.
Its been 150 hours since I changed the fuel filter. Some one marked it as changed. Put on a new one and runs good again.
Fyi. They should be changed every 50 hours

Um, you might want to check your manual, the one I just googled said once a year or 300 hours

Man, u must have some shitty fuel around there to need to change that soon. Throw a little Sea Foam in the tank to clean out that carb.

Yeah, that's some crappy gas or another problem like vapor lock. Don't know, but I will be honest. I rarely change the fuel filter, in fact in all my years of cleaning carpet with a TM I have never had a problem with a clogged fuel filter. I've just changed them just cuz.

put the one for outboard engines on it and you'll never have to touch it again. it's large and designed for massive fuel flow.

I never have replaced any fuel filters. No problems ever? I have had a prochem legend and now Prochem Apex machines. Legend had 7000 hrs when I sold it. Older Apex has 5000 hrs on it. 1st I have ever heard of it. Should I change them? Or if no problems don't sweat it?
Thanks

I just follow the mainteance schedule and I positive your prochem requires the same mainteance as mine. Actually my old prochem required a lot more than the tcs.. u just don't perform it correctly

I do plenty of maintenance on my Prochem, like I change the oil... hey Marty, blow me If something isn't running right I will trouble shoot it in half the time it takes "your guys".. Being that you are not mechanically inclined go ahead and take it in and waste your money. CHANGING A FUEL FILTER EVERY 50 HOURS IS RETARDED(well unless you run a POS)!

I have never replaced the fuel filter. I asked about changing them and was told I did not need to replace them.

I never changed a fuel filter on any of the previous TCS units I have owned, but this Cheif II I am running has a fuel filter in every Kohler kit I purchase. Along with a breather cover and plugs. So, I change them all out every 50 hours. Overkill? Maybe ... but a little preventative maintenance is certainly not a bad thing.

I have about 1200 hours on this motor, I think. I'll have to look, but at around 2000 hours I will need to start looking for another engine for it to be on standby for when this thing goes to hell at around 2500 hours.

Unless the Kohlers are better than every Brigg's I have ever owned.

Most electric fuel pumps have an attached filter. Just to be redundant I also have a clear filter inside the van, but have NEVER changed one except when moving a machine from one van to the next.

The electric fuel pumps I have seen don't have any attached filters. If they have a filter, it's inside the pump itself. Speaking of the ones used on the TCS units I have owned.
