Electric Reel Improvment

I spent the day tinkering in the box truck, serviced the TM and stuff, then I did something I've been meaning to do and I should have done years ago. I went down to the sewing machine store got a foot pedal switch and and a fairly heavy eight foot extension cord, cut the ends off the cord and wired it up to the electric reel.
Man that is sweet! Why they don't come like that is beyond me?

Under 30 bucks too.

Now I'm going to check out the new MGM Casino at Fox Woods with my Bride 8)

Enjoy!

let one of them cuffs come apart and smack you on the side of the face like mine did........this puts better distance between me and the reel.....

Just keep it in the door way if it rains.

On a new reel the button is mounted on the frame and you have to reach a bit past the wheel diameter to access the button.

I moved the button early on but still have to use a hand to hold the button.

Hands free allows you to shake, wipe and guide your hoses on the reel.
It's a huge improvement!!!!!!!!! 8)

Whoa there Nellie Belle, Pat Brady to the rescue.

When Jim Miller of JEM made my reel he had it all figured out.

At the hardware store he bought an air pressure switch hooked to an air bulb with a small hose which I can actuate by squeezing with my hand or the hose is long enough to reach the ground and I step on it to keep both hands free to wipe down my hoses on the sunny days after the mudd dries. Here in the beautiful NW my hoses get washed on a regular basis.. which when actuated the electrical connections which are all mounted and water proofed inside the truck. No Shocking hazard here Look Mom No Hands!!!

Can't you just replace the button on the reel with a switch that would stay on while you use both hands? That's what I'm gonna do when my button stops working.

We used to have them on our sewer cleaning machines. The switch at your foot was air power. much safer and no water worries. :D

The Bane control was pneumatic as John described.

Twenty five years ago, when everybody dissed "power reels". Same spindle wrapped up vac, solution and power cords.

Haven't looked at their new stuff much.

Thanks,
Lee

The button for my electric reel is right by the back door next to the reel. I push the button with one hand and hold the hose with the other with a rag around it to wipe it down as it comes in.

I like to wipe the hoses off as I reel them in.

I wipe hoses off as I reel them in too. My left hand rolls the reel, my right hand wipes the hose.

I got myself a good shot in beans the other day un-reeling the hose. I grabbed the whip, and it... well... whipped out from under the reel and smacked me right in the giblets. I don't wanna know what kind of damage I could do with an electric reel.

does anyone use that hose hoser to clean there hoses?

i know it only does up to 2", but there's probably going to be someone to make it 2 1/2" inch.. depending on the demand..

I used it regularly until I got 2.5 in hose. I never used it on site. I only wiped hoses between jobs, but at the end of the day if the hoses didn't cut the mustard you bet I was washing them. Now I am just picky about where I lay my 2.5, take it out and spray it down with an old HF gun every now and again.

Witha slight mod you can make the Hoser accept 2.5" hose.
Pull the jets off, and place enough washers under it to lift it till the jet is even with the housing. This way the hose won't catch on the jets and the jets have more spray on the hose rather than being point blank.

Pull the end caps off and cut them to accept 2.5"

Aren't the electric reels 12 VDC?

If so, I don't think there is any concern for electrocution.

Sounds like some cool setups, and definitely an added perk for the hard working carpet cleaner at the end of every job!

I have an electric hose reel too , but prefer to do it manually.
I'm scared to push the button because it makes me think I might be starting a nuclear war.

I know its something I have to deal with eventually.

Kind of a phobia, like some of the others I have like standing over a toilet to crap instead of sitting down. Those sewer rat stories I heard about when I was young used to give me nightmares.

And lets not get into my farting when I'm nervous.
