Engine keeps cutting out.

Pisses me off.

I'll be cleaning with my tm, which has a honda 390gx 13 hp engine, get about 70% through my job and the engine will start cutting out. At first, it will start up again and run for a while but only at a very low rpm, then cut out for good.

The next day it will be fine for an hour or so, then start doing the same thing again.

Is it overheating?

I checked and made sure gas is getting to the carburetor.

Then it would do it right from the start. It is a heat related problem. How many hours are on the engine? It could be a valve backlash setting that gets larger as the engine heats up.

Is it getting spark to the plug? Pull the plug wire off, stick a screw driver in the end and hold it close to some metal ground, crank the starter. Is there spark? If not check the wiring for loose connection or bare wire that is shorting out. If nothing there check ignition modual.

Call freeflow at 940-642-2503, he might have some suggestions. He is good at trouble shooting over the phone. I bet you have a lose wire or connection somewhere, but he can help you. Are you in Oklahoma still? Are you running a outboard tank? If so make sure the air valve on it open. Could be fuel starvation. I would pull the fuel line next time you shut down and turn on the pump to see if you are getting gas. Just some thoughts.

Check your wiring connections, may be loose to cause that type of problem. It sound like a internment that may get worse, may be a easy fix.

I have had several bad ignition coils do the very same thing. They work fine until they reach a certain temperature and then loose spark completely or spark intensity drops almost 75%. On a twin cylinder it is easier to diagnose but on a single the spark could be weak enough to cause what you have described.

It's practically a new engine with less than 300 hours on it.

Well, I'm gonna call the manufacturer.

Hey Phil. 13 horse Honda--Is it a Prowler?

If so, myself and others have always wondered how they perform. Let us know.

Steamaction works just great.

It's my first tm. Roots 33, and hypro 2000 pump

I use it for residential and have only once had to use all 150' of hose.

Like a dumbass, I used it today on an uph job. My uph tool doesn't have a bypass, and I ended up cooking the hose! I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning.

Suprisingly, had a carpet cleaning job later that day and the machine worked fine, so I guess the pump was not damaged.

Taking it to an authorized service company tomorrow, but they said they will only touch the Honda engine, not the rest of the unit.
