So I'm one of those guys who neutralizes with fab set after the cleaning.
I've used protector without neutralizing and it doesn't seem to work and actually seems to he dirtier faster.
My question for people who do this is can you mix fab set and protector?
In order to neutralize an protect at the same time? Or does that just not work?

years ago I was told by a Prochem rep to use a separate sprayer fpr protectantant because even a few drops of acid rinse could contaminate flourochems .
he was pretty insistent about that

then I asked him why it didn't contaminate it with their suggested misting of acid after cleaning (if you didn't use an acid rinse thru TM) and then spraying protecatant .
he didn't have a good answer other than it was way diluted and spread out

bottom line is, I don't think you can mix the two

Interesting Larry, what is it about the solvent protector that helps neutralize the carpet?

Most water-based fluorochemical EMULSIONS ideally require a pH of around 6 .

Solvent-based fluorochemicals have a natural affinity for the nylon fiber,

so they will displace other materials on the fiber.

Surfactants are the components, which affect protectors the most.

You should always use a soft water rinse for maximum repellency.

Some presprays depend on high concentrations of surfactants for effectiveness.

We have always used grease solvents in our presprays to minimize the residue.

Larry

P.S. Emulsions are barely stable. Do Not mix anything with them.

Good stuff...

One more thing Larry, which is a better pre-spray, power Max or your citra-Steam? I know power max gets a lot more love and attention but how does citra-steam match up?

I would not suggest mixing Fab-Set with Maxim Advanced protector.

Rather than post spraying with Fab-Set, you could neutralize the carpet with an acid side rinse agent such as End Zone. You may also want to consider Encapuguard Green as a post cleaning spray. This provides protection , neutralizes and prevents wicking all with one product.

Most solvent based protectors are illegal in several states. There are some solvents that are exceptions to the regulations but in the volume of solvent that would be needed to cover a decent sized carpet job would pose serious health and safety questions.

Citra-Steam has the citrus solvent added.

PowerMax has the citrus solvent, oxidizer and enzyme added.

PM will remove more stains with the oxidizer and pure enzyme.
