Any guesses about the fabric and advice on cleaning?

No guesses!

Do the simple natural vs synthetic burn test. As old as that is, a natural fiber satin should be falling apart by now, but I wouldn't stake a damage claim on that. You can test that in seconds, and know for sure.

Once you know what family its in, you'll be either using heat, an alkaline detergent, and plenty of flushing, or distilled water, then neutral detergent and very minimal moisture.

Also do a structure integrity test.

Jim, can you tell me, where does this chair get the name "Fairfield" from??

Down under, chairs like this are either called "Queen Anne" of simply, "Wing" chairs, depending on their structure, age & value.

As I kid in the '40's, I grew up with my rellies in a Sydney suburb called Fairfield.

Thanks,

:yoda:

You've got soil and oil spots that years of oxidation. While it may be possible to improve the condition, I'd make sure to qualify potentially problem areas.

The cushion trim cord is also broken and damaged. Be sure to point that out also.

Some of those ares could look worse if spotted to aggressively. You'll not only NOT remove the stain but potentially could leave one of your own or lighten the area.

The client when told prior will most of the time say "do the best you can."

However if you don't tell them, you'll not only get a complaint but could put yourself in line for responsibility.

I will burn test it first, then proceed very cautiously. A long trip for one chair is really more to learn what I can, than to actually make any money. But yes, I'll make sure she accepts that it is a risk!

Good points. She is a customer of mine about 90 miles away. I quoted $95. However, she has not yet responded.

180 miles round trip + cleaning, for $90.00 ???????? :eekk:

I have AU$110.00 minimum & that's within about a fifteen minute drive from my place.

At today's exchange rate, that equals: AUD 110 = USD 83.90

Further, & the price goes up to compensate for time & gas, etc;.

To travel that far, I would ensure I had a full days work at least, to really make it pay for itself.

I run three separate areas that I service every three months, I can be away for three days each trip, per area.

For instance, North I service in Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct

West in Feb/May/Aug/Nov

South in Mar/Jun/Sept/Dec

I do work in these areas that carpet cleaners currently do not do.

Staying in motels overnight & meals away from home is all claimed on tax, as is gas.

It's like a mini holiday each month.
