What do yall do to prevent or treat deep cracks in fingers from chems? Delimonene seems to be the worst.

Latex gloves last three minutes.

Not practical to keep hands slimed with lotion.

Nitrile gloves.

The blue ones sold by distributors? Those are what I meant in my original post. How many pairs do you go through in a day?

Latex and nitrile gloves are great for rectal exams (they keep your fingernails clean) but for the heavy duty work we do you need thick rubber gloves. I wash them with my work towels and can use them for years.

We prefer Nitrile, they can be worn a long time without being too hot and a pair lasts a week or so. They can be purchased for about 99 cents a pair or less in quantity.

Whe I cleaned and before we used gloves, about once a week I would put vaseline on my hands before bed and wear medium thick white socks on them overnight. 1-2 nights of this and my hands were all better.

Nitrile from Lowe's. Comes in a box of 100 i think! They are much better then latex, and I usually don't have any problem with the chems eating them.

What products would that be that cut grease like Delim, don't dry your skin, and are healthful to breathe? What do you use?

I melt down a bar of Dove hand soap. It leaves the carpet silky smooth and my hands too.

I have suffered from this for years and years. I have tried every possible solution. I've put Vaseline on my hands at night and worn gloves to keep them soft. I've tried Crack Cream, in fact, I was one of the first to bring it to attention on the boards back in the 90's. It was a joke product I sent around to counter Jimmy Ladwigs electro-cobs he would send to people. (Good times.)

Anyway, nothing worked except one thing. Super glue.

As soon as the cracks start to form, put some super glue (of any type) in the crack and it will stop it spreading and end the relentless pain. I keep a tube in each vehicle and use it as needed.

I posted about this a while back about really thinking about what I put in my own personal carpet. I would never use a delim based product on my carpet because it does leave a residue behind. I used to use a product called conquest as an additive to my prespray. I liked the way it smelled but my skin was always cracking and wrinkling. I only use citrus gel but rarely ever add a citrus based delim product unless absoultely neccessary.

The real reason I quit using the conquest was it was eating my o rings in my hf. I went back to it after not using it for about a year and noticed right away my hands and finers were wrinkling up and cracking. I now avoid delim based products as much as possible except for general spotting with citrus gel. I guess if you wore gloves you would be fine. Then again I don't think it would be good to breath in the vapors all day. We get used to the products we use and don't realize what we are breathing is not exactly healthy.

I think there are factors involved that are not a part of this industry. I have an uncle who has never worked in this business. He is a Bell South lineman and works with electrical things. As far as I know, he doesn't touch chemicals at work and since he is a real man, he doesn't wash dishes at home. Yet, he has the same problem with this as I do, and as my Dad does. My Dad is a retired steel worker. One thing we all have in common is we work with our hands and are outside a good bit of the time.

Rolling up solution lines etc. Prochem citrus pro really isn't that bad but conquest is. I guess it depends on the chem.

Thanks for the tip, Porky. I applied super glue to the cracks and I can even play guitar now. (Which is truly amazing because I never could before.)

You never know on here if something is a joke or not, but I was serious. The super glue thing really works. The hard knot it leaves on the cut protects it and keeps it from sending you up a wall every time you touch something.

I've been using super glue for years to help heal cuts but I didn't know I could play the guitar after using it. I guess I won't be on here any more after my rock 'n roll career starts. It's been nice knowing you suckas.

Porkchop does your uncle use desiccants? I have a relative that works for Bell and the rub desiccant powder on the lines to remove moisture. If he is getting it on his hands it would dry them out too!

Kevin you're too ugly to be a rock star! :p

Just kidding, you're ugly enough!

Instead of D-Limonene? Is that a joke? Wouldn't that leave non rinsing residue behind?
