So, cleaning a regular office account today, and one of the girls runs back and tells me she thinks smoke is coming from my van.... Of course I drop the wand and run to door to see.

No smoke, all is well. "Did you see smoke?" I asked

"No, but we thought we smelled it" she said.

"Oh, no that's just my rinse" I said, and went back to cleaning. I've been cleaning this account for years now, and I guess its the first time I used Flex Ice as a rinse here. LOL We all went out side, no smoke smell, then back in and only when I was cleaning then the odor dissipated after I would stop.

So, chalk up another Phantom smell associated with Ice. So far, I have heard No odor, Celery, Dog Puke and now Smoke..

Ps. The carpet's looked better this time than any other time I've cleaned them. Flex powder w/citrisolve and rinse with Flex Ice. 400 psi, quad prochem, glide and everest. lots O' steam. No brush, just spray and dwell. Multi colored Poly CGD. Was going to use Traffic Slam, but the Flex seemed like it did the trick. No pictures, sorry.

I haven't tried Flex rinse yet. I've heard that it stinks.

Like Flex as pre-conditioner not the rinse it does smell off I'd rather use a fresh water rinse since we have great water. I will sometimes use a green rinse from Chemspec. But at a weaker dilution. We don't clean a lot of thrashed out places though.

The first batches of ICE were pretty butt-ass stinky. My latest Flex ICE isn't so bad and I knock it down with Proliminator Lemonizer in the solution tank.

Im going to go out on a limb and say that angone who has issues with the scent of Flex Ice while being used, to the point that it becomes a deal breaker, probably will be a one man show until they wand themselves into the grave

Not that that's a bad thing..

The last batches of Flex Ice have the fragrance. It may take until September for them to show up in your local stores. We only added a small amount of fragrance to neutralize the acidic odor in the bottle. Based on the resistance to the odor of Flex Ice, I am amazed that no one has ever registered a complaint on the Viper Renew and other acids that we use. From my perspective Viper Renew is unpleasant as well as the acetic acid (vinegar) used in our TCU Neutralizer until recently. This acids have a strong odor. At use dilution of 1 to 640 you probably will not be able to detect the fragrance. I am actually surprised anyone ever noticed the current Flex Ice at the 1 to 640 dilution, except maybe when doing stairs. We did not include a fragrance in the original formula as we were concerned about contributing to the natural clumping of sulfamic acid over time. I have tested over ten fragrances for the Flex Ice in the last year. In each case the fragrance either soured and/or contributed to the clumping of the product. The fragrance that we settled on survived the heat test and needed only .025% of fragrance to do its job of odor neutralization. The low level of fragrance also did not contribute to clumping. We have done field testing and odor testing with several different opinions on the type of fragrance used. For most of you, there will be no change in use, but you will notice the change when opening the bottle.

Does anything with the new label also have the new fragrance, or not necessarily?

For what it's worth, I thought the odor of the original product was fine. Definitely noticeable but not necessarily unpleasant. Just not the fresh/clean/fruity/floral scent us cleaners are used to in our products.

The new label will have the new fragrance, but there are several hundred jars of the old label that have the new fragrance. I personally checked and new stock ordered from our warehouse will be the new fragrance. Stores typically have 2 months stock on hand which is why some of the new product may not be available until September in some stores.

I couldnt really flush it out too easily w water from my garden hose, i soaked it in vinegar for 10 min and then it cleaned up

Have u checked these screens? Any deposits?

We have found that very hard water, some high heat machines and Flex Ice do not play well together in about a dozen or so instances. We have also found that the best powdered rinses (the best ingredients soften water) are used up softening water when used with very hard water and some high heat machines. In lab (not field) testing we have done using Salt Lake's very hard tap water (14 GPP) at 1 to 640 dilution, we have had up to 80% of some formulas used up softening the water and not available for cleaning. The dynamics of high heat truckmounts, hard water, and powdered rinses are quite complex and not subject to current lab testing procedures. Switching to using soft water is the one step that does not impact cleaning. Switching to liquid rinses or no rinse impacts cleaning by itself and there is still some cleaning loss with hard water but not at the same percentages as with powders. You can boost your pre-spray with a rinse like Clean Free eliminating a rinse with hard water and still get some rinse benefit. A simple acid rinse like Fab Set is not impacted by hard water and can be used without any negative impact with hard water, even though the hard water itself builds scale in machines. Lowering the heat is another option, but that is the reason you purchased your truckmount. I have spent the last year doing extensive testing in this area and offered a cliff note summary. As always most research leads to the need for further research.
