I have several tm that use either propane and kerosene burners and would like to convert at least one of them to a heat exchanger unit. All units use a 18 hp Honda/Kohler motor. Has anyone done this? what is required to control the heat? eg. murphy valves, exhaust diverters, apo's, etc. What kind of temps did you end up with?

I think John's out of business. I heard he passed away. Pleas correct me if I am wrong

I just called TTI ( John's Custom Machine) , and they are still in business. I felt stupid asking if they were still building heat exchangers because the guy who answered was quite alive (and sounding annoyed with my question).

I'm glad to hear that tti is still in business. I had tried to contact them a year ago and the number and email wasn't working. When I asked someone else, they told me that John had passed away. They do have some interesting heat exchangers and systems. I am selling one of my units but the other one I want to put in into a little chevy astro van I have. It's a nice little unit with its own alternator and pump clutch with pretty low hours. I just want to use something other that the kero burner. It would cost me aprox $2000.00 to buy a lg 3ht, so I'm thinking maybe for $2000.00 I could install a heat exchanger instead.

Just got off the phone with Don from TTI and John passed away about 3 years ago. The current owners bought John's business and renamed it. They are still manufacturing everything John did. There website is having some technical problems right now but they have some nice equipment and accessories. What looks like some of the best heat exchangers around and everything you need to do a conversion. Not cheap but definitely an option.

I got a TTI exhaust HX a couple years ago. That sucker is HOT! I'm no longer using the coolant HX because it's not needed. Took it out to replace gaskets and never reinstalled it.

TTI HX has more, and smaller, tubes for more surface contact.

My exchanger from TTI is about 8 years or so old and works amazing. It produces mega heat and fast. Ima low flow-er so the heat stays hot longer.
