It's custom for service people to get tips for the holidays.
Hair dressers, school teachers, mailmen, waiters etc all expect a little more before the holidays.

One way to encourage is when presenting your bill to the home owner is to leave your other hand open palmed like a baggage porter at an airport or hotel.

Another way is to enclose a small discreet envelope in with your Christmas card.

A more noticeable way is to wear a "Money Belt" with exposed 5 and ten or even twenty dollars to give them the hint.

Other local cleaners have told me that they bring their family in to a clients house to sing christmas carols with a "Gift" donation box held by one of their children.
Of course their family members are dressed in their poorest selection of clothes to encourage more dollars.

A more profound way is to simply ask for a holiday tip.

It is not considered good manners to demand a holiday tip.

How do you encourage tips?

Including a 15% gratuity on one's bill would be appropiate also.

Or another option would be to have a Food drive box where you can either collect food for the needy or stock up your own pantry.

Another option is when presenting your bill at the kitchen table have a mock envelope with money marked "carpet cleaner holiday tips" available for them to see.

Or while your in the clients home you get a prearranged phone call from your wife and as you talk you explain that you don't have any extra money to buy the kid's presents this year.
Then sheepishly look at your clients face to see their reaction.

It's based on a stripper's strategy of seeing the money and you adding to it.

It's all in my new E-book coming out soon.

Earlier this morning at a flood the home owner bought Gerardo and I pizza, soda, plus gave us 20 bucks each. He had a fresh water line bust, and had 18 inches of standing water in the basement.
