I don't do any restoration work but occasionally will do some sub-surface extraction with a WaterClaw for clients with small jobs that don't intend to file an insurance claim. Yesterday I had a referral call with a lot of clean water from a broken line to an outside faucet. It was a very nice finished area in basement. I recommended they contact their insurance agent while I got busy sucking the water out. I spent 3 hours extracting and handed off the rest of the job to the restoration company who arrived just as I finished. I am preparing an invoice to send to the owner who will add it to their claim. I really don't know what the acceptable rate for this kind of work is.

Same rate you charge for carpet cleaning. At least $150 per hour.

Water extraction can be a 1hr job or a 4-5hr job, depending on the severity and whether or not you have to remove a pad, so I agree with Ron on charging by the hour at $150/hr

If you want to get specific
Level 1 (moderate, visible wetness) around .39/sq. ft
Level 1 Heavy (standing water) : .47/sq. ft
Level 2 (deep or contaminated without solid waste) .61/sq. ft
