I'd ASSume it'd be the same as being in the back of the YP's. Everyone wants to be first. It's all about keeping your name in the front and increasing your chances of being seen.

If they are looking for your business Name then being on page two is OK but to get that phone call to give an estimate you need to be on the first page.

It will be easier soon because Google will start taking bids on those links on the top of your local search.

Like put in San Jose Carpet Cleaning and the ABC s down the side will be up for bid in a while. This is going to be the next big income boost for Google.

This is how you do it.

1.Claim your Google Local Listing.

2. Complete the profile as completely as you can along with your service categories.

3.Get real client testimonials from google, Judy's book, Brown book and Angie's List.

4. Build web links that show up after the reviews on Google Local.(they call these citations)

Google Local loves local web cred.

Build it from local membership lists like the BBB.

and Local web directories links ,Yelp,merchant circle and other free directories.


Scan the web and see what web links show up on other companies' Google Local sites and register your company on those sites. (Some of the sites can't be registered on since they will be fake local directories from those gaming the system)


Don't build it too fast. Just a couple of these things (3+4)a month or Google will spank you.

With a little work your Google Local position should rise.

Google Local is the new big player and it will be more important that regular webpages for searches with hand held devices.
