Greased Lightning contains powerful solvents. It can remove grease and oil from carpet. In the short term this can improve the appearance of the carpet.

Possible drawbacks included -
1) Damaging seals on your pump when run through your solution
2) Non-professional appearance of using an off the shelf product
3) Delamination since the solvent can also dissolve the adhesive backing of the carpet
4) Resoiling issues because it is hard to rinse out.

it will also choke you to death.

We used it for minute as an all purpose cleaner in the rehabs.
Hard surfaces, counters, cabinets and such.

The first time I personally used it, I was hacking and coughing.
Anything that gets *my* tar and nicotine stained lungs to hacking, doesn't get used with out a respirator.

I put a stop to our use of GL
(cause I KNOW the little genies won't wear a respirator to clean rehabs)

I tried it for grout cleaning once. Made me cough like mad. Won't use it again.

I did test it for resoiling issues once. I used to have a piece of carpet in my garage to test with. I sprayed GL in a spot to see if it would attract soil. It didn't attract a darn thing. Very surprised.

Now that I think about it, I've used it as a spotter too. 50/50 with water. Worked pretty well, but not nearly as well as Fels Naptha.

I'm didn't think strong butyls were bad for resoil issues.
I'm pretty sure that's the main ingredient in GL

I'm more curious why some butyl based cleaners cause more coughing than others though?

Scott, I am a fan of the Bridgepoint line as well as a HUGE fan of my local distributor (Chem Solutions Inc in Pensacola FL), so I ask this respectfully and sincerely. What might be in Greased Lightening that would be hard to rinse out that is not in some of Bridgepoint's heavy duty presprays?

Rex;

Greased Lightening contains a common hard surface builder:

sodium hydroxide (~2%).

It is very difficult to rinse off carpet fibers and should not be used (pH~13.5).

Also makes you cough more than any solvent.

Thanks Larry. I have seen sodium hydroxide on several "industry" products. The concentration difference does makes since though. Thanks again.

sodium hydroxide, or commonly known as LYE
