Hard to tell from the camera phone, winds gusting up to 35 mph and at LEAST 18" of snow SO FAR! It started at about 9pm last night, going til 9pm tonight!

Snowblowing and shoveling every few hours is getting real old.

Nobody has canceled for tomorrow yet... I can hope!

Having your super bowl party friends snowed in with you for a few days sounds fun......

A liitle snow, 15 degrees but brutal winds, gusts up to 45mpg. We cancelled Sunday dinner and sent the girls back to Lawrence before it got worse. Temps tonight are to get down to zero. Oh well Tuesday is supposed to get up to 50.

We took off for a vacation to FL to see my mom and take a cruise almost 2 weeks ago. We just finished the cruise part this morning. 8 nights with stops in Aruba, Bonaire, and Grand Turk.

I'm not kidding when I say I'm considering an exodus from Iowa. This is what's happening back home.

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Is there a way to post a bunch of pics at once from iPhone?

One from Aruba...

Mel and I want to make this a regular thing, if we can, in the Winter.

This was in Grand Turk.

I think Mikey's Fest belongs on a cruise ship someday!

That sounds like a great way to reward yourself. Hit it hard in season and set back a little just for your trip each year.

It will make you want to take an extra job or two a week in the summer to build up your off season fund. :winky:

Yesterday was the first day in 25 years that I can remember that we had zero revenue from our on-location crews. (except for the North East blackout of 2003) Officially we had 16.7 inches of snow from Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Usually when we have heavy snow, we make it optional if the crews want to go out cleaning. Yesterday we had only one crew try and they got stuck on the way to the gas station. That's when we decided to cancel the entire day. The office staff was mostly in and we did take 137 calls, so it was good that we were there to answer them.

It's business as usual today though!

Sometimes it just makes sense on to put your people or your property in peril.

We've closed only three days that I remember.

1-day last year when we got 9-inches with a base of freezing rain beneath and twice the year before for heavy snow falls. We didn't have anything that couldn't wait until the following day when travel was better.

It felt weird and the employees couldn't believe it but it just made sense to do so.

Over the years, we have had days where we should have cancelled the day out. Those days where the tow bills pulling our trucks out of snow drifts were more then the revenue we generated. :icon_redface:

Yep been there.

In fact I got penalized for one tow and had to pay double. It cost me $125.00 more because one of my tech's laughed when the tow truck got stuck trying to get a water truck up out of a drive. The driver was pissed cussing and told the crew leader to shut that guy up or he would leave us. He used a tree and winch to get himself out and then towed us out. He told the crew leader its costing you double because that jerk was laughing at me. :eekk:

It didn't hurt the tech, it hurt my pocketbook and I wasn't even there. :errf:
