We all have this problem...............

We pick up keys and let ourselves in and there is nothing done to prep the home for cleaning.

What do you do and do you charge for it ?

Chris, We love these jobs, Normal instructions "Do what you think is needed"
For the most part we do TA's. In the family, game and dining rooms we do it wall to wall, we always add protection, Ken Snow said it earlier in a post of moving stuff, It just takes a minute or two and we just bump our rate up if there is lots of extra stuff. Many times the owner calls and tells us there kids used it and they don't know what shape it is in, "Just git er done" Send the bill, we don't pick up many keys, most have a set hid for our access.

We don't do many "second homes" here.
they'er mostly "first homes" here and their second one is in your hood or Rex's durring winter.

Closest we do to anything like "second homes" are more like cottages and bungalows on private lakes.
anyway, we do much the same the vEEgs.
move the small stuff to hard surfaces and leave it there.
Then we charge accordingly.

if it's REALLY bad, like cloths, toys and dumb stuff like that, we'll pile it on the beds, sofas, etc and just clean traffic lanes

now quit being a prima donna whiner
you knew the job was tough when you took it

I prep on my 1st trip into the house...all small stuff up...within reason...dining room chairs and barstools into the kitchen...stuff stays where I put it...owner puts it back...

oh. and I always move the sofas in the living room...I guess rearranging furniture is a favorite vacation activity.

No extra charge here...just comes with the territory

I guess the plus side is not having a lot of visiting time with Holly Housewife...just get in and get it done!

If you pretty much HAVE the job then really you should have asked.
Some of the things to ask are

Is there furniture
are we just doing traffic areas
is there anything you don't want moved
any problems with the carpet besides just dirty
are we doing all the carpet (all rooms)
any animals to get out
any alarms
anything esle to be concerned about

I am sure there are more but most questions will get the customer thinking and will probaby think of stuff to tell you.

I do a bunch at the Jersey Shore. I just move the stuff into the kitchen, put little stuff on the beds or sofa and chairs upside down on a table and leave it there.
