So you can gross between $1000-$2000 a week. (if their telling the truth)

That means a profit of between $500-$1000 a week.

Can people with family's really live on that? Especially in AZ.

All I can say is....if you can't find the work yourself then you're doing something wrong.

No way am I giving 60% for advertising and scheduling. The only way I see something like this really working is when they get down below 20%. At that point there might be a chance for both the contractor and subcontractor to be fairly rewarded for their efforts.

Or maybe they are counting on you converting all clients away from the contractor???

I would do it for fill ins if I needed them. They charge $58 a room that is 23.2 a room which is below what I get but I still have to pay all my overhead to begin with so between the trucks/workers sitting or the trucksworkers moving I would choose moving

The national contractors have ruined the janitorial business in most parts of the country and I fear the same thing may happen with carpet cleaning. It’s a business model that’s easy to copy and soon there it market saturation. Everyone wants to be at the top of the food chain but most are too lazy to work for it. It reminds me of how there are payday loan shops on every corner fighting for market share.

Carpet Cleaners are as a rule of thumb, very bad at math. By the time they realize they will never make any money it’s way too late. Someone always will work unless our immigration policy changes. I had a Jani-King Franchise in the late 90s. I was possible to make an good living as a franchise back then even though they took 40-50% Now there business model has been coped so many times they are bidding way lower than 10 years ago and many of the franchises are Ethiopians. I tried getting back into it a few years ago with one of their copy cat competitors called Bonus. I was the only white franchise out of 30 franchises in the Kansas City area.

I guess you could. That would be a hard lifestyle though. Health insurance for a family of 4 runs about $700 a month. Throw in another $700 for your house payment/utility's and taxes/insurance minimum then at least $300 a month for food and $300 car payment/insurance.

That puts you @ $2000 per month and those are conservative figures. I guess if the wifey has a good job it would make it easier though. That must be how some guys run this business model.

For the average start-up O/O I would think it would be a great way to increase your volume, you have to figure if YOU can make money at that price or not.

No offense but aren't you a part timer Tim? Wouldn't you rather clean more than get a second job?

I'm with Chris on this, one of the problems early on, for me, was running all over the place. Never having a lot of jobs in one area. If this could fill out your schedule and the $240 is for a reasonable job, then I don't see why everybody jumps to the conclusion it's terrible.
I've talked to Brian about some stuff and while it wasn't for me he is offering a great deal for a start up.
Most people that read or look at this board (not the heavy hitters) are probably getting in the $.30 a sq range, he's offering $.25 and does the marketing. Yet he constantly gets criticized for his business model, I wish I'd had the opportunity early on for something like that to fill my day in a given area.

No offense taken. I'd rather get a second job. And in my particular situation I don't believe the work is here, unless I travel and I'm not too keen on that prospect. I know my area pretty well and the other job I'm working towards will take care of my financial wants and all the carpet cleaning will just be bonus, if I even continue in the industry.

In my opinion all these sharks trying to find you business and keeping all the profits is a load of BS. If cleaners are dumb enough to to go for it then fine let them, I really don't care how anyone runs their business. All I know is that if you know the work is out there then get it yourself don't work for 20 bucks a room just cause you don't want to advertise or network. Complete stupidity if you ask me. I guess there really are suckers born every minute.

My coverage area is 20 miles around in 2 locations and that leves alot of uncovered territory. With that said these companies would be closer to Boston than I am and would have lower standards (no Prescrubbing etc etc) I could bang out 3-4 rooms an hour still do good work sell the scotchgard and deodorizer make my $100 an hour while you work your job. I wouldn't be paying the advertising, the phone bill or nothing. I would get my 1099 w/ right off against the business.

I did do some subcontracting but it was pump outs for burst pipes and things of that sort and then comeback and clean some carpet for this compnaies customers and it really helped 2 winters ago.
