I am going to hire a helper for commercial work. Should I pay him an hourly or just a flat rate day rate?

By the hour. You might not want to get it set in his head that when you call him you have a full's day work for him. I can't imagine as a newer company you wouldn't need that flexibility.

a part time gig??

pay him a percentage of gross.
Make it worth his while if you only need him for a few hours in the evening/night

full time would be a different scenario

Do you plan on him being more than a helper later? Or is this just a grunt job no matter what?

If you're looking for potential pay the commission.

If you're looking for quick help, hourly is good or even by the job if you can legally make that happen.

By the job is a little different than commission. In a nutshell, you just pay whatever you think it's worth for the job.

I pay 12% for a helper with a $45 minimum per day.

Seems to work well.

On a slow day it's only $45.

On a busy day it's $120 or more.

Works out to about !/2 what a tech would make.

I just figured i have a 2 job's that are like 450 and I would give him like 100.00 each day.
Sure I would want him to work for me in the future, but lets see how he really works. He is able to talk to people which is a plus and he is young big strong kid..22 years old I think. I am just gonna give him a shot
