these things have been around for a long time..under normal conditions and good maintenance... most run flawlessly....

what are some of the reasons some HX systems fail............

The only problem I ever had in 28000 hours with my two DDs was a freeze damage that broke mine once, had to replace it. I run just fresh water through the system when working.

Freezing or being run dry for the most part in my experience.

But then on other systems, there's relay failure, sensor failure, clogged bypass orifice, failed solenoid and other electrical problems...

freezing, HARD WATER, and IMO most of the things that go wrong with them are all the things around them that control the heat. I liken it to an engine block in a car, its not normally the bottom end or the heads of the engine itself that fails its a safeguard that fails and causes the engine failure.

Keep them descaled with a proper descaler. Keep your screens and offiffes clen too.
