HX Popping Noise

I mentioned in another post that my HX froze and I had to get a new one. After my initial heat exchanger froze I lost a lot of coolant out of the reservoir before I realized what was going on. I decided to have the radiator flushed and new coolant put in so I could drive it to a VLM commercial job the next day. On the way to the job the HX started making a clanging sound, almost like something metal was banging around inside, and the engine temperature rose higher than normal. I turned around and the engine temp was around 220 by the time I got home and likely would have gone higher if I kept driving.
I replaced the HX with a used similar HX and it's having the same issue. Once I get to about 50 MPH it starts banging really bad and temps start rising. The coolant hose that comes from the engine is really hot, but the coolant hose that goes back to the engine isn't hot at all. Has anyone ran into this before? Is it metal from my radiator getting into the HX? I'm thinking maybe the radiator hose that goes back into the engine is clogged and is creating pressure in the HX?

This video shows the noise while driving:

Sound after engine is turned off. This went on for about a minute:

And the reservoir made this sound for at least 20 minutes after turning off the engine:

Any help would be appreciated!

Shane is right. The noise is steam.

I assume the system is full and you bled it

Have you considered the thermostat?

I'm embarrassed to admit this but turns out it was just low on coolant. I had the radiator flushed after hose water from the pump got into the system and let the mechanic know it had a HX and needed more than the regular 5 gallons. He said no problem and I trusted they did it right.

This morning I took the hose off the top of the HX and filled it up directly and it took almost 2 gallons. I also added another 3/4 of a gallon to the radiator.

I just drove it on the freeway for a half hour and no pops or overheating at all. It's running great. Now to figure out where the transmission is leaking from...

Thanks Fred and Shane! I really appreciate your help!

Could be worse, you could have called a distributor to diagnose why your machine won't run. Swear up and down you dumped your waste tank last night(which you did). Only to find out you're a moron who didn't turn the bypass valve off when you cooled down the machine at the last job the day before and filled your waste tank in 30 mins at your first job of the day. Not that I've ever done that... two or three times.
