We usually wash them, on occassion if we determine they are serious bleeders we will tack out and top clean. We do not get a ton of them, they are not real popular in the midwest. We do get quite a few Dhurries over the course of a year, though not as many as 10-15 years ago.

I wasn't listed but I can tell you what we do.

Pretesting is extremely do to potential bleeding.

Test your precondition and your rinse solution on a white cotton towel prior to cleaning.

Blot on, rubbing can confused the issue.

Some Navajo's will crock color off on to the towel by rubbing, yet are still save to clean, provided you use a neutral cleaner and limit agitation and moisture.

Pretest for dye stability

Lightly precondition with neutral cleaner (Gently agitate if needed)

HWE with acid rinse, Either with a wand for large rugs or a hand tool for smaller ones.

Hang and force dry.

On those that exhibit a concern for color run we will clean and allow to dry one side, before proceeding to the other side.

Willie It still has a potential for color bleeding if you use the "Pre -Clean" Precondition (9.4 PH).

I rarely use much preconditioning with the Host. I did a condo yesterday with it, manager was thrilled, and other than a few post spots to take care of, it worked pretty good. Ms. Green Research suggested I use little or no prespray when possible.

We also have used Host, but more as a last resort on rugs if they can't be wet cleaned with out a reasonable risk.

We bought a used Host machine off Ebay a few years back just for those cases, but it gets little use, we just don't run into it that often.

Mikey,
Be a man!
Do it with the Vortex.
Why else pay all that money.
The usual knock out pre-spray
1200 PSI
250-275 temp

That should be enough to make you the proud owner of a navajo rug.

I didn't know Richard cleaned navajos, and he didn't know I sold chemcials...we're all learning here.

btw: that host may work better than you think on that rug.

Depends on the condition, degree of soil and whether the dyes are stable. The NW doesn't have a lot of Navajo rugs or blankets, so those we see are typically better quality ones that haven't been abused. We'll hand clean these using an upholstery tool. If a rug is heavily soiled we'll dye set it and wash it, then block it to dry. If you're concerned about a particular rug and the physical condition is sound, your best bet is to let your partner immersion dry clean it.

Some Navajo weavings seem to have been dyed using food coloring, but you'll have more trouble with Mexican and Turkish flatweaves, South American kilims and whatever that thing is you have on your postcard.

Are you telling me that Harold isn't an expert in that?

Maybe you ought to call Lisa.

Try not to be so jealous Marty - I doubt you never even seen a Navajo - and quit following me around.

Wow thanks Jose.

I guess we could use that answer on any question asked on the boards.
