What do you do about a person like this?

We come in as a second bid on a mold job. The first bid was in excess of $8,000. The poor gal didn't have that kind of money. Our inspector looked at it. 3 spots of what appeared to be green mold each of which can be completely hidden by a coin. No evidence of any other mold. According to the EPA this sort of thing can be taken care of by the homeowner for less than $20.00. We told them that, gave them all the necessary precautions and let them know what we could do it for, also that if we opened up the walls and found more blah blah air testing blah blah, regulations, blah blah here's the epa website.

She opted to do it on her own.
NOTE: The above statement is my paraphrase of what our certified tech did. When I am asked about mold I tell people I am not certified to talk about it and would gladly put them in touch with the people in my company who can.

Realizing they are hitting a new low, I googled them and get this:

Please help me. I hired Blank of
Blank to restore my home . My home burned on June 23, 2009. All I wanted was to be made whole. I hired Blank in good faith. My jewlry was removed, it fell outside, and was not documented, several pieces, including my mothers rings and aunts jewelry were lost. My c lothing was thrown into a hot gas dryer and shrunk. Blank's crew c onsists of drug rehab unliscensed contractors. The siding was knocked off my housed, windows do not fit trim does not fit, painting consisted of one coat of spray, this is a mess. I do not wish another person to ever have to go through this. Blank ruined more than the fire. Please contact me and help me. Name and contact information removed.
this project is not completed and blank is threatening legal action. I have paid 56 thousand dollars - he has not paid subcontractors. thank you. I am almost 65 and do not need the stress and hell this company has caused

RED IS TEXT I ADDED AFTER DELETING IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

I also have evidence of sexual harassment, this individual has settled quite a few claims of such out of court for large sums of money. I have heard statements from former employees who were threatened into lying for him and acting as false witnesses for his defense. I know people all over town who can't stand this guy and are just waiting for him to go down... But he won't go down. Our town needs to be rid of this lying creep, and quite frankly I don't think his customers are safe or that he should be let into people's homes. I know somebody who has a file on him. They let me in on a few choice things, but keep the file sealed. They won't use it. It's actually evidence. Sworn statements that will stand up in court. But that's not even needed. All you need to do is go to his favorite restaurant and poll the waitresses.

Showing picture of blank, "Has this man grabbed you in a sexual nature?"

What do I do? Nothing. I'm his competitor. Let him take himself down right?

Okay... Wait for it. DOGPILE ON GARY! EVERYBODY PHYSICALLY JUMP INSIDE GARY'S REAR END AND CHALLENGING HIM TO SHOW PROOF AND TELL HIM HE NEEDS TO WORRY ABOUT HIS OWN BUSINESS! HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT COMPLAINT IS EVEN REAL?

I don't know the complaint is real. The person posting it gave their first, last, phone number and address though.
I redacted the name so I don't have to back up my statements. Because I'm not here to rip the guy a new one yet.

We don't generally lose work to this person/company. We are not worried about them in that way. My concern is that this person is creepy and I would not trust him alone in a room with any woman. My other concern is that this person is giving this industry a bad name. It hurts all of us.

(sigh) I don't know. I don't know why I'm bothering venting about this here if I don't care to deal with the crapstorm that will most definitely ensue.

Gary if you spent less time worrying about what every one else in town is doing, and more time about what your doing you'd be too busy to care.

Well, you could step in it and find YOURSELF in court for a number of things. My attorney friend mentioned something about tortious interference of business something or other.

You might google yourself and find somebody has lambasted you for something, real or not... I had a person who had a job scheduled, we showed up and she didn't. She called me about a month later asking about prices and - these are her words - I want to schedule for Saturday but I'm going to call around and try to find a better price. If I do, I'll want to cancel. I told her that's not how we do business. Next thing I know bad review on Google.

In other words, Gary, stay out of it. This person will run himself down eventually.

Gee, If I have a lady that asks for a estimate and that she's going to call around, I give her some recommendations of who to call. She's out of my hair and has no reason to bad mouth me.

As for the scumbag, eventually he will get what's coming to him.

I think you misunderstand, she wanted me to put her on the schedule but if she found a cheaper price before the day of the job she was going to cancel. I don't know about you, but I usually have a full schedule and I don't as of yet have a way to fill those surprise cancellations with something that will produce revenue.

If you really feel that this company is a threat to folks in your town, you might suggest that the person who posted the complaint get in touch with local media (TV or newspaper) consumer reporter that may give this case some publicity. They love stories about companies that are mistreating senior citizens.

Yes, I did miss that part. She wouldn't be on my schedule. I would tell her to look around first then let me know. I might tentatively book her, but if someone else calls for that time I would let her know that if she hadn't confirmed, I would bump her.
I do think you handled it right and she is an idiot. Glad you didn't get working for her.

I think you're right. I shouldn't let it bother me. If the complaint is true, those people can contact the media. If he's as terrible as everbody says he is, it will come to the surface eventually. There's no way I can do anything but make myself look like a petty douchebag and start a rivalvry with a company that is not in our league who we don't compete with anyway.

Thanks for letting me vent all.
