I see it all the time, the homeowner or handyman goes and buys the boxes HD and installs it the same weekend.



Up to a quarter inch gap in larger install

Generally a couple days to acclimate would be sufficient.
But I could see planks shipped from a high humidity region needing more time to adjust to your dry climate.
Also most homeowners do not use tap blocks for install. Makes a big difference in the tightness of the interlock gaps.
