Jabsco Pumps....

Anyone ever change the seals in a Jabsco external brass pumpout, clutch operated? Mine is leaking right under the middle, and indicates a bad seal.
I've changed the impellor, but not the seals.

It's on my Genesis 59, but I'm sure other machines use this pumpout.

I haven't changed one, but I have Jabsco literature on what to do. Stanley Steemer uses them, and I've built a system with one as well.

We used the Jabsco pumps on all our fishing boats for wash down and bilge pumps. Great units. Easy to rebuild even 40 plus years ago.

Question you want to ask is Why did the seal start dripping????
in the early days they had packing nuts on the front of the shafts to
seal and lubricate and you could tighten them to reseal.

If not mistaken, improper alignment or to tight of belt will cause this problem. please check these out so you don't continue to have seal leaks.

John, I also source these pumps/parts from a ships chandler.

Very efficient pumps.

When you were fishing, did you have many "leaky seals" ??

Cheers,

Shorty ;-)

John Watson......could it be all the silt and grit that enters the waste tank? The filters can't catch it all, so much of it is pumped out. I gotta get it apart and check it out....the problem is that the Genesis waste tank isn't very big, and I can't clean without the pumpout. I would be dumping every 20 minutes......sooner on flood jobs.
