And in Union City of all places.

Sort of surpised they didn't go to a cheaper southern location.
Three airports not too far away for incoming SFS'rs but hardly a tourist destination.
Some hefty competition not too far as well..

I wonder why now when Nick would always reply with "never" when I asked..

Restaurants, car dealerships always want to be near each other. They must have done a market study that showed the volume of sales in the area.

Is there some weakness in the market place? Shifting of ownership, downsizing? Personally I'd be on the offensive when my opponent is weak, not strong.

??

Well, we are all very excited to actually finally have a store in CA. Additionally, we are building a much larger store in St. Louis to replace the one we have. As a company, we don't do much without a lot of research. I am sure there are multiple reasons why they chose that location I am not privy to that info. What is exciting is that this sends the message that JonDon is in it for the long haul. As an employee, alas a very old one, it tells me that the future is bright. Pardon me while I grab my shades.

Hmmm....I can't believe their study suggested that southern California was not a good location to open a store.

Over 22 million people in this southern region, -which is more than 60% of California's population- suggests, that there would be enough cleaning and restoration companies to sell to.

Maybe they wanted far enough from the Mexican border that a drug cartel didn't dig a tunnel into their warehouse;););)

Congrats! I appreciate the great service Jondon provides.

Shout out to my rep Josh Hodge! He works hard to find me odd ball parts and special order items, along with great service on regular orders. :headbang:

Ok here's the situation

Truck mount builders prochem, hydra master support one carrier per area not multiple they have what's called territories.

Jondon would be here if there was a opportunity to take a territory!

The big ticket items sales and service is where most of the moneys, at not just retail chemical sales.

Prochem came to Millers to have us distribute their machines in the 80's we already had 12 location through out So. Cal.

We missed a huge opportunity.

Super duper, Empire floor machine any body selling their machines here we would've been the main retailer for all of So. Cal.

I did enjoy my day at their facilty in chandler Arizona meeting everyone there at the time was great. Joe Domin, Jim Roden we went to lunch and had Mexican food.

A bit off the subject perhaps... But who the heck even decides on territories on where can a person or company make a sale?? This has always bugged me in any business.

Let the best person/company make a sale and not tie mandatory sales to one company whether the customer likes them or not.

Good Territory control has been a hallmark of Great American Businesses. Ford, Budweiser, Coke, Pepsi, McDonalds all rolled out specific territories for their Franchises. They were well thought out and usually the franchise had enough margin and potential business for the dealer to become successful. The Japanese with bicycles, cameras, copiers would sell to anyone with a buck and those industries became real shitshows...

However in the car business Honda and Toyota learned that well designed territory control makes for more profitable dealers and mother company.

If SS or Prochem let any yahoo open up a franchise their sales would increase short term but long term nobody makes money, and customer service goes to sh*t. The Carpet cleaning industry at wholesale has a huge challenge because of the very limited customer base within an hours drive of the warehouse.

There are two long standing dealers across the bay, within 45 minutes who sell SS, HM, PC, MB and every single chemical.

They were the last to learn of this potentially catastrophic news.

3 shops surrounded by 11-12 million people.

Probably if you add traffic to the equation their more like 3 hours apart.

True, empire Northridge. Super Duper Carson.

The next guy is Orange County and San Bernardino.

Maybe one guy in Ventura one interlink in Bakersfield.

I don't know the situation up north my point is no more than an hour drive for a territory. Make it as convient for not just sales but service.

With their desire to have one day shipping I would think it offers them the greatest number of clients to service. It is probably near UPS & FedEx regional terminals. It is also close to the Portland store. I would imagine you will watch them march down the west coast in the next decade.
Good for the West Coast.

It will be no different than a new franchise cleaner opening up in your territory. You don't pack it in because there is a new player now.

They may need to adjust their strategy, better their weak points, market their strong more. Strengthen their relationships and work on building new.

It could impact them initially but once the newness of the "new restaurant in town" dust settles down, I would think so would their business.

More stores will add to the number of cleaners also. With Bicycle shops if a town of 50k people has one shop and another store opens there will be an impact on the first store but the overall bicycle sales will increase too. The pie will be split but the pie will be bigger. I believe this will happen in that market also.
