I've never done it, just chucked the envelopes in the trash.

Could never afford the time off was my excuse to myself.

I think I'll go this time.

Would any of you mind sharing what types of cases you've been on and how long they took?

It is your civil duty Mikey.. Ya never know when you might be at the hands of a jury. So.. In a way you can afford it.

I was called up once, but never seated.

1st case was employee theft.. Guess defense felt having a business owner on the Jury was not in the best interest of the charged.

2nd was domestic between a drunk guy and his wife.

In all one full day was lost, another 1/2 day then cut loose.

Man it would suck to get tied up for weeks on something big..

I've been called twice. Each time I was put in a waiting room with other potential jurors, never was interviewed. Just lost a couple days each time. At lunch break I went home and grabbed my income tax reciepts and plowed through them for the hours I was stuck there so it wasn't a waste of time. People were jealous of me for being able to work.

I've had to go 4-times but actually only made it on 1-jury.

2-women were fighting and the cop got stuck with an ice pick as one women tried to stick the other women.

2-days all over a tiny puncture, but since it was a cop they had her up on serious charges.

We came back with accidental but it was still a harsh penalty because it was a cop injured.

I've spent days going from court room to court room only for them to settle out of court and they release us.

You talk about wasted time, these guys are pro's at it!!!

You can't get out of it here, I've tried and no excuse ever worked the best I got was postponed until a child was born.

Child molest case, dude was a appliance serv tech, we found him not guilty. No evidence, the mother pushed the case. 1 day jury selection and 1 day trial.

Case was a guy that was masturbating using pipe insulation while sitting in his van at a grocery store. I guess some sort of deal was made because they told us to just go home on the second day.
For the record, not for me of course, but is that a law just in your state or everywhere?

some of you guys have been lucky

I've had Jury Duty 4 times in 20 years

First jury I was selected for took 8 days... some 14 year old dumbass climbed a telephonepole and got electrocuted when he touched the top plive wire and fell 30 feet

Lost his arm and sued the electric company and phone company because there was no LIVE WIRE sign posted

We said " sorry no damages for you "

Second case was 2 days , some convicted degenerate felon was countersuing the employer he stole from for wrongful termination , a complete waste of the court's, juror's and tax payers time

should have shot him under a Law I'd love to enact called the Stupidity Act

Other two I wasted half a day waiting to get dismissed

I spent 3 weeks on a civil case. The lady had several classic vehicles sold off by the body shop that was restoring them (lack if payment, mechanic's lien, storage charges,etc.). Some of them had already been resold by the dealer. She stole them all back and forged signatures to transfer the titles back. The prosecutor wanted me because I used to work in a body shop...

John was on a civil case several years ago. The judge was the guy who performed our wedding ceremony 4 years ago!

Been summoned prolly four or five times. Never been empanelled. Sat around from 8-3 or 4 with a 90 minute lunch break.

County makes it as painless as possible: Free wifi, desk space, cafeteria, comfy seats, etc.

Called in twice

They didn't want me in each case because I knew too much about the type of case being tried, and wasn't considered to be impartial enough.

I just served for the first time in November. Lasted the week. Deliberated for about 6 hours. Had to wait for the police to clear the areas around the court house for us to leave, and then were escorted to our vehicles. Yhe vistomes family was not happy with the verdic. We had five charges ro decide on. The first two were felony vehicular homicide, and then three lessor charges. We found him guilty on two of the lesser charges. It was extremely emotionall, and an eye opening experience in how our justice system works, and how the papers rarely get anything right when they report about the case. They are very good at ommitting testimony. We had a good group as a jury, we all got along, and were able to discuss the case openly. Without anyone being over the top. Yet, I would have been just as happy to have been suckling dog piss out of a carpet for the week.
