Just got an extended G2500. I really want a setup that maximizes space usage. I want the Cimex to be easily loaded and unloaded. I was in a trailer setup before and ran the machine out the back. Part of me really wants the machine out the back again. I have rarely seen this in a van setup. Anyone doing it?

He knows his truckmounts. The Mech. he works with draws folks from other states to do their installs and repairs. If you can track him down, (Busy as he is) He will be able to help you.

Dirk,

I think the machine is so much easier to use in the side door. I do alot of residential, so having hoses that come out the back make it nice. If they were to come out the side, it would be a PITA.

Machine in back, completely blocks the back doors, but can put some added weight over the axles, taking pressure off the front end, and giving more traction in winter weather. Steamway has a hardon for rear door installs.

Congrats on the new ride. I think out the side is a little better.

Are you putting your Boxxer in there, or are you buying something else.

Dirk;

Rear TM mounts seem to be more popular in Calif.

I like to put the weight in a Van between the axles (side mount). It helps the chassis and handling.

Also, the TM can usually face the house.

it is another one of those personal preferences

I would much rather work out the side then the back.I find almost all my jobs I do if I were coming out the back I would be fighting my hoses more...........

side always gives me a straight shot to the house 99% of the time.........

Worked w/a mount out the back of my old box truck, worked well for me, less fighting the hoses round that last corner from the sidewalk to the driveway. I might be a bit concerned bout havin' all that weight over the ass end of an extended ford, as all the extra length hangs over the back. Food for thought.

My TM is set up in back.
I like it much better that way for many reasons.

1.) For most res set ups, the TM is pointed away from the home/entrance.
Less noise and fumes pointed toward the home

2.) most res set ups are easier to roll the hoses from the side doors, down the side walk and into the home.

3.) more airflow around the TM in the rear keeping it cooler

4.) easier to work on cause you can get to BOTH sides

5.) I don't have a HOT smelly TM 15" behind my head when going to the next job on a hot summer day.

PS..I've run a fat heavy Powermatic out the rear of a Ford 3/4 ton ext van for over 10 years.
The first van had over 177K on it before i retired it.
The second has 108K
Never had a prob with axles, tires or brakes.
I installed Airlift air adjustable air bladders between the axle and frame to keep it standing tall.
($220 bucks at Summit racing)
takes a couple hours to install both sides.

Much smoother ride than adding extra leaf springs

Dirk, I have an extended like yours. I started with the tm on the side and reel on the back as most have it. I found the extra space provided was behind the reel and it was a bit tight getting back there (wasted space). I switched the reel to the side as well and have a bunch more space. I have a 250' reel and it is in about 30% from the side door. I have a 250' reel an it's electric so I don't think it would work with non-electric. The tm I think is 28" wide.

If you've only got a 2500 van, I wouldn't put in the back. I have mine in the back but its a 3500 standard length van. It is a bit harder to work on in the back but I like it. I put a bulk-head behind the seats. The cab stays clean, cool and it doesn't stink in the summer.

I worked out of a dodge w/a hydramaster CDS that had the hoses coming out of the side. I never had to back into a driveway. I pulled straight up to where I was working, and the hose reel was angled just right for a smooth pull to the door. (I always carry the hoses, but it's nice to be able to pull 20 feet to the door, the hoses aren't as heavy that way.)

The machine in the back does make a lot of sense. I chose not to set up my machine that way though, I think it screws you up on how much cargo you can carry and how much shelving you can have.
