Kohler 18HP/20HP repair or replace 2 questions

Two questions.

1. Can I replace my 18HP engine from an old Prochem Legend with a 20HP?
2. Can I / is it worth to the rebuild the 18HP? ie. replacing rings, seals and bearings?

I have tons of blow by causing some major oil leaks. Runs well but cant take the oil anymore.

Take it to small engine shop see what it will cost for repair.
Buy new and keep the repaired engined as a back up.

I replaced my 18 with a 20. And I think you can bump it up to 22hp. My legend was a 93-94 midel
