Lacquer Sealer Removal

Custy had Lacquer based sealer applied to brick pavers in the kitchen. Maid used a mix of water and vinegar to clean it. Over time, the sealer is now flaking off.

Custy wants the sealer stripped and an "epoxy sealer" applied.

First question;
What would be the best method to remove the existing sealer? A lacquer thinner and then use a spinner and my TM to rinse and extract? Use a shop vac?

Second;
I talked to one guy at Alpha Concrete and he said that I wouldn't be able to remove all the lacquer sealer because it had penetrated too deep into the grout and pavers.

He said the residue would inhibit the adhesion of the expoxy and that I should go back with another lacquer sealer instead. Do you think he is right?

Third;
Which sealer do you think would be best to re-apply in this situation?

Thanks,
James

Thanks Gene.

I spoke with a company called Paschal Tile yesterday and they said they have a product called SR5 that will strip it. Gonna find out on Wednesday if they're right.

Next question is; Which sealer to reapply. Hmmmm..........

$313 for a 5 gallon pail?

i'd wear a good respirator.

if the price don't kill you the fumes will.

i bought a really good one from HD for about 30 bucks.

been using the same cartridge about 3 years now.

only use it a few times per year.

might be worth carrying on the truck just in case you need it

They have cheap ones and good ones

regardless where you buy, be sure it has the proper filters .
i forget the designations , but some are for dust and others are paints/fumes

better supply mucho ventilation in the home too.
Easiest way is to set up a fan blowing out and windows on the other side open
