What is the best caulk, goop, or sealant, to use?

I'm gonna pick up a length of angle iron to run across the van where the front mat starts.
Run a thick bead of ? and then screw the angle iron down.

Recommendations? Or a better way to do this?

Just had to pull the front mat and insulation from a tank overflow. Ugggh.

Thanks

Instead of angle iron (steel), that you have to paint to avoid rusting, perhaps use angle aluminum. Only a little more expensive.

I just pulled the soggy mat out of mine. Going to extend the liner all the way to the firewall.

just go and get yourself some 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch aluminum angle iron.....drill some small pilot holes in it....take some liquid butyl rubber sealant and coat the bottom of the angle iron...put in place and use some self tapping screws and put it in place....then take more butyl and caulk it in...butyl is the best water sealer out there for this type of application.....

For Jim

Does the butyl rubber dry or is it always tacky.

Will it get all over any wires or hoses that happen to rub against it anytime in the future.

Thanks
