Local Connex - Pay per click

I have never done any paid internet advertising except with Robison. Has anyone used pay per click successfully, or is it not worth the time? This company contacted me about the great success their clients are having. The lady told me it was costing on average 20-40 dollars per successful lead conversion which sounds believable to me. Just trying to get some feedback. I am really clueless on this subject. My IT guy told me a while back I could target certain zips exclusively with pay per click. That doesn't sound so bad.

Problem with pay per click is you need to be willing to spend a ton of money...in my experience. $5.00 per click is not uncommon in large areas.
You can hit smaller areas, but then you don't get many leads.

I would go with SuperPages, or YP.com...just don't let them screw you with high prices and long term contracts.

It's usually not the advertising company...it's usually the ad.

There is a million ways out there.
