Looking at some of Loren's old pics; & couldn't help but think how much like the Zipper, his old drag tool looked.

If you go to www.deltasteamway.com and click on the Rochester Steam Way page you will see another drag wand but a 6 jet 18 inch one instead of a 4 jet 12 inch. The front is low and the jets are angled rather than perpendicular to the carpet. It was only a one way tool rather than a two way like the zipper. The glide on the zipper makes that possible.

That's the exact same setup I started with! Steamway 400,........sounded like a freight train in the living room! And the drag wand.....it had an electrical solinoid.
We also use the 18" drag wand for large commercial settings.

Dem was the days! Wish I had some pics of it.

Is that a portable? It looks like a tm installed in a living room.

It was a big one. I think it was about 175 pounds. I had big wheels on it and would dolly it up and down stairs and I had a ramp to get it into my van.

Very loud due to the nuumber 2 positive displacement vacuum blower. I could pull 15 inches of mercury though.

It had a heater and two power cords. I carried a lot of spare fuses in those days, the time delay kind.

The Steam Way 400 was one of the original steam machines. $5000.00 in 1970, a good years salary for most.

I don't care to have more than a couple in a day anymore. Just had one job yesterday but it was a 6000 square foot house. Took me all day. Too much for me to keep that pace. We turned down a couple jobs this week that I could have done but just didn't want to work that hard. I should retire, eh?

And I thought I was the only one here that turns down work cause I just don't want to do it!

If my crumb snatcher hadnt come to work for me, I'd be slowing down myself. My youngest is about to graduate from college and get off the dole ,but alas, I now have my son and his growing family to support!

The Zipper saved me on the white nylon because the customer was filthy and picky. Even after scrubbing with a 175 and a carpet brush and extracting with the Ti at 12 flow and 500 psi, there was still an unacceptable level of soil in the carpet.

The Zipper at 600 psi took it almost all out.

The customer wasn't there and without the Zipper I would have had to deal with that inevitable phone call.

Did you apply pre spray again or just more rinse passes with the Zipper?

Crank up the emulsifier?

Zee is correct though. The Hoss you should buy from Dave Gill would have saved you time

I will be 66 in September, old enough to start collecting social security.

Loren........I started social security at 62......just incase I don't make it to 66! I'm quite pleased at what I'm getting, and my wife gets 1/2 of what I'm getting. Life is good!!

I just gotta be careful of how much I make this year, next, up till 66.

I thought about taking it early. My dad took his at 62, but he is almost 92 now so he would have been ahead to wait until full retirement age. I didn't need the money or I might have been tempted to take it at 62. Evidently you can make as much money as you want and not effect the amount received from social security if you wait, at 66 for me.
