for some reason my lower HX cracked and was blowing out therm oil
we are thinking that because the shocks went so bad and the chassis was slamming that when the hanger broke off of it...... it was bouncing the frame......and cracked it (?)
These pictures are the new one with and without the heat shield
This is the old one I removed you can see where it bounced the frame when the hanger broke........
and this is what I found when I took the insulated cover off.........
and the new one installed
The insulation was holding in a lot of moisture and it was eating itself up........
The newer one has the heat shield and will allow the HX to hold the heat but will also allow it to breath.......
Only thing that worries me now is that my muffler is sporting the same outer wear as the old HX...so I am sure it will be going in to be replaced........
If you have one of these older style insulated wraps I recommend you take it off and replace it with the heat shield.they are not that expensive and may save you a lot of headaches and money at a later date..........
