I'm in the market for a new computer, not sure if I should get the new macbook pro or the Imac. Currently the only mac gadget I have is the iPad. For laptops I run pc's, since my pc's are dragging along, I'm trying to make the switch. For you people that have either a macbook/pro and or imac's, and own an iPad, if you were to get a new laptop/desktop, which one would you get?

Keep in mind, I currently only use the computer for internet surfing, uploading pics/vids (no editing), youtube, and getting into SM. Don't play games or do any crazy video editing. My current laptop is a 15 inch. I was looking to be in the 1300-2k price range that's why it was either the new macbook pro's or the imac's with the larger screen. If I get the iMac, I can always use my iPad, which is what I do with my current pc laptop.

Thanks

Good to hear Jim, which Mac do you have?

I'm considering the iMac 27 inch and up screens as well.

I like to tweak & hack PC's so the Imac wasn't a good product for me, I found that you can build a Mac Pro for around $1000 & have a very powerful MacPro PC that is alot more faster & customizable then the IMac.

Here is the Mac Pro http://www.apple.com/macpro/

And if you have ever built a PC then you should be able to build a "Hackintosh" http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com

Parts you need (3 different builds for different budgets) http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/search/label/CustoMac

http://www.youtube.com/user/tonymacx86

It does require having some knowledge about Bios & using the iBoot + MultiBeast software that these guys have put together, so its not for everyone. This is how its done http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ ... -x-on.html

My parts are shipping now so hopefully next weekend I will start building my Hackintosh. (its all legal for anyone that is skittish)

I love AAPL as a shareholder because they are selling MacPros for 3x what it costs to build, but as a consumer I am glad I found Hackintoshing.

You can check but I do not think service monster works on the mac. I was told 2012 a while ago thathurts

That's because it runs Windows Internet Explorer which they no longer make for the mac. However you can run IE if you get a program like Parallels. I have it and it works great. Very fast.
I have the 27inch iMac. Very quick and syncs with the laptop. Since you already have an iPad I'd get the iMac over the laptop.

What the heck are you thinkin Bill? For 1/3 of the price of a mac you can get the PC with the same power. Well I guess when you are done with the mac you could have a cool fish tank.

Yes, we have 2 laptops, one gateway about 1.5 year old, and a newer less than a year old Acer with the i5 processor, the gateway is so slow now, and the acer is already dragging down. I've spoken with people that have owned the newer imacs (not the one in ur pic lol), and they've all said it runs just like when they bought it 1-3 years ago. That's one of the reasons I'm considering the 27 imac, the ones i've seen come w/ the software to run IE.
