Ok, here's the scoop. A regular customer calls...her mother has just passed away.
beFORE she passes, she completely loses control of her bodily functions and soils 2 mattresses.
The customer wants these cleaned. How MUCH do you charge??? :?:

If they were cleanable, I might do them for free if they were a good customer.

If they were cleanable I'd probably charge $150.00 each.

They reason I say "if", is it will be difficult to apply a disinfectant and decontaminate the affected materials and consider it safe to sleep on.

She should probably consider replacement unless it didn't affect much more than the surface. :(

Its a matter of volume John.

Would you sleep on them after cleaning and treating them?

If it were just urine I'd probably try, but you have a whole lot more going on there, it could be a bio hazard? Too hard to say without seeing.

She may not like to hear replacement, mattress's can easily be a couple of grand.

You could saturate it with enzymes, the problem is knowing if you would get it all, but no real way to extract it all out. If they were to take it apart and remove the batting and you cleaned both the outside cover and inside I'd have more confidence.
Have her call her insurance and see if she has coverage for replacement.

From what I sometimes read, LITIGATION is a big deal over there.

Where would you stand LEGALLY, if someone contracted an infection from the mattress that you cleaned and you were then sued. ??

In my state, second hand mattresses cannot LEGALLY be sold, due to inherent health concerns.

Personally, I would explain the situation and turn the job down.

what size mattress? we're shopping right now and 1500-2k is kinda the norm for a good matress. i understand the mid to high end ones use natural material for cooling and warmth.

i'd go the route of replacement and encourage them to CUT THE MATTRESS APART so it can't end up at Goodwill or some other thrift store and be sold to someone who doesn't know it's history!!!

"D' be sure to get one with fabric on both sides.

My wife bought our current mattress and while it's a nice pillow top on one side, the bottom side is not fabric so you can't flip it. At the price she paid it should have been fabric on both side. :x
