Metal Stair Cleaning

We got a request for a quote to clean metal stairs in a 13 story condo building. I haven't done this yet. I'm trying to anticipate any issues. Specifically I want to know if we may cause any rusting or other issues. I know--"try a section". Well, we may, but in the meantime I'm wondering if any of you have done this and how you did it to avoid problems.

Take a picture and post it, please. Some metal stairs have concrete steps, some have rubber treads and so on.
