Is the main plug a 220 60 amp? Why not four outlets? Looks like a great way to get more power in a house. John did it again.

We've been using these for a few years. They are handy, but it would be nice to have more outlets on the box itself. I had my electrician make me a distribution box. I have him wire it in on jobs where we need it.

They have been around for a long time. If John is going to build Spider Boxes it will be a completly different animal then these. If you have an electrician build you one I would be careful using it on a water loss. If it is NOT UL listed and it burns the house down your SOL

John, unless something has changed since we bought our Mytee boxes, they aren't UL listed either.

Those come in handy all the time for me. I made my own, and made an adapter for both 3 and 4 prong ranges, as well as 3 or 4 prong dryers. So 4 adapters total that I keep in my storage tote. Also made all of mine with their own 110 volt ground just to play it safe, and have 4 outlets on each of them, 20 amps per side.

Bought the supplies at the local Ace Hardware at a cost of about $32 each. Some homes have both gas ranges nor gas dryers, so they do you no good there, but those houses are the exception. Probably better than 90% of the homes I come across have a 220 source I can tap into if needed.

.............just something to consider while you are playing around with things like this.......
that 220 outlet that you are plugged into has 2 poles that are brought together that is giving you the 220...each leg (2) is either a 30 amp = (60 amp breaker) or a 20 amp= (40 amp breaker)....
These breakers are phased together so it will probably take more amperage then what ever your unit is going to give you before it will trip itself out..these type of boxes are safe as long as you do not over amp them.....no more then 18 amps (per leg or per outlet) is safe...........unless the little blue box has its own set of breakers.....you would be surprised how many of these types of boxes I have seen a melt down in...........or equipment burn because the 220 breaker did not trip.....

I can tell you just by looking at the picture that all the electrical parts are UL listed..........

We have 2-20 amp breakers built in. These adapters are not UL listed because UL doesn't have a category for them. We have approached them twice and they don't know how to quote them. They want us to just give them money and they may be able to figure it out or not. Go figure!

I use it at my house every time I clean my carpets.

Hi Jim,

I call them adapters because the adapt or convert 230 volt to 2-120 volt outlets. Is that not the right terminology?

If you are talking about the entire box that you made then you really don't need it UL rated.........as long as all the electrical parts that you have used have a UL rating then you are pretty much covered....
and you will never get them to give it a UL rating .....it is kinda like your axle fans.....your cords have a UL rating and I am sure the fan motor does but there is no need to put it on the the fan blade or the housing that it all sits in.....I looked closer at the picture and seen the breakers for each outlet.....one of the better built boxes I have seen in awhile.........

John,

We picked up a few of those for our water damage crews. They worked great, and we had no problems using them. The rotomolded casing is awesome too. Thanks.

these things are awsome and mytee doesnt just sell you one box with a pair of adapters for the three prong style outlet and one for the four prong outlet they sell you both as one unit for some thing like 150 bucks! very hard to beat even if you can find the parts for forty dollars why waste the time.

Don't you use a truck mount?[/quote:3gio77nj]

Hi Willy,

Actually, I leave the portable in my truck and run 1,000 ft. of hose. I guess I do run a truck mount after all, I just forgot to bolt it down. lol Are you getting a lot of snow up north?

Proper terminology would be a Power Distribution Box.

If it is the 4 prong, he is probably ok, 3 prong, and it would need a separate cord for a ground.
