I remember John and Bob Foster talking about them back in October. Mytee has the shelves on their website now.

My questions would be:

How many shelves do you get for the $70?
Does it come w/ everything you need, or do you need to buy extra accessories to attach the shelves to the van? If so, what else is required? That's with or with out the wheel well kit.

Is there a roto-molded door shelves made as well? Couldn't find it on the site.

For the ones that won't be able to attend Mikey's west coast event, will Mytee consider doing a group buy special if enough members want to purchase the product?

MSRP $70.00 per shelf. Brackets are extra. They're on the web site under accessories. No door shelves yet. Maybe Superior or Cobb or Jeff will do a board special.

Just so i can understand as i recall bob foster talking about how would be nice to have a nicer and less expensive shelving than the standard steel/aluminum shelves. He mentioned that it would cost less than the standard steel shelves sold out there.

http://www.mikeysboard.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19820&hilit=mytee+shelves

Bob Foster says:

"The Mytee folks were interested in another idea I had for modular shelving for vans. The cost of aluminum and stainless is through the roof and I doubt we will see it come down."

"Jim I realize that stuff exists but it is very expensive and also not friendly to liquids. I am talking about a very simple modular system. Based on Mytee's price positioning it likely could be attractive for resellers, assemblers and current TM owners."

"All the other stuff out there is really expensive and really not that suitable for your industry. The stuff for your industry is mostly stainless and aluminum an now that stuff with its labor component added is getting too expensive to buy and also too expensive for distributors to sell."

As per your site, it says $70 per each shelve plus s/h.

So the min for someone to install these shelves would be $70, plus $36-$46(floor or wheel well kit), plus $36 wall kit. That's approx $140-$150 w/out s/h for one shelve. I would need min 3, even though i'd like 4(reason i like the design/stackable), so that's $140 for 2 more shelves, so min for 3 would be $280-290, 4 total is $350 plus s/h, am i correct?

This is the shelf we have installed with our TM's:
rotoshelf1.jpg

For $189 it is a good value and easily installed over the van wheel wells.
We think it will replace the SS shelves we used before.

I hate to say it but I'm thinking they are over priced too. I'd rather have stainless if I'm going to spend the same money.

I'd like to know how they are cheaper than stainless. So I hope someone can prove that to me.

They are less money then Stainless but about the same as aluminum. Larry showed 2 shelves for 249 but 3 shelves should be about that price. I have 3 sets of three but didn't realize I needed to order the mounting brakets separately.

you asked for a deal i'll sell 2 of these(3 shelf set) with
the mounting brackets(Over the wheel or floor mount) for $219 plus shipping. This is only to get them out there and get feedback. First come first serve.

Are you selling Larry's shelves or Mytee's. Mytee's look better. Larry's look like they are deep enough to hold a bottle the size of a 16 oz. coke can.

Tim & Bill;

We also have SS shelves in stock. I would prefer the Mytee shelf system.

The SS model with 3 shelves is $369

The Rotomolded Mytee with 3 shelves is $189 + $70 = $259

Marty;

They ARE the same shelves... :roll:

After looking closely at these shelves (from pictures of course) and considering their price points. I have to say that the idea is a great one. But to me, and this is just my personal opinion, the execution is poor. I think if you buy 3 of these things you're probably going to be way higher than a traditional 3 level shelf. Secondly there is way too much wasted material, why do you need two layers to make a shelf? And thirdly the top of the shelf should have it's own ability store gallon jugs w/o an additional whole shelf. It just seems very inefficient in it's execution. I understand wanting to make it so you only have one mold, or the smallest mold possible form a production aspect. However I think the shelves should be l___l shaped and have a top cap mold (no risers to it) so you only have to buy 2 of the shelves and one top cap and not have any wasted material. And all the shelves should be able to handle taking the height booster to go over a wheel well. And the booster bracket should be made of all stainless materials and be very supportive (or broad) where it attaches to the plastic since over time a narrow piece of metal could probably cut into the plastic.

That's just my two cents on the idea.

If you come to MF5, John and his son will help you CAD up your own design and make your own rotomolded shelf, sprayer or tank for only the cost of the material.

Like I can afford to come out there. But I hope someone does do something like that.

Tim;

After a few years in service, the rotomolded shelves will be in better condition than the stainless shelves.

They will resist bends and dings much better.

They are sturdier than the metal shelves...
when you have them side by side.

I also like the mounting inserts in the ends of each shelf.

Thanks for the input. You make some valid points. I'll work on it.

This guy means it. I remember in the first thread about it we were arguing about how dirty the white plastic roto-molded stuff gets. He used a different color of plastic. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it looks to me like he read what cleaners had to say, and designed the shelves based on that input.

John those mounting brackets that hold those shelves look weaks as hell.
Why not just a stainless steel bracket or a special rotomolded wheel well shelve to start the stack off with right. just looks like a very weak point. Just my opinion. :|

All good questions. We have not experienced any weakness. These shelves are much stronger than some of the thin gauge s/s out there. The geometry of the molded panels make for a very strong part. That why we give it a limited lifetime warranty. I don't think any s/s shelf maker does that.

How about a shelf sized to hold larger items like pads, airmovers, tool boxes, buckets and what not that connect to existing design?

Rotomold the Mikey Vac Logo into it and Fred Homan would buy one.
