Hey guys looking for your exp opinion. I'm looking at my first truck mount. I found a masterblend el diablo which is four years old with 200 hrs. It's in mint shape and comes with a small enclosed trailer with a manual reel and about 300 ft hose. It's the diesel burner unit. He's asking 23000 for it all. What do you guys think it's worth ball park ? I figured more around 15k. And keep in mind this is in canada. Appreciate the advise and I can't say enougn about what a guy learns from this site. Thanks

No and it's too small. I was gonna sell it anyway. I tried buying just the el diablo. But he don't wanna separate. He's open to offers on the unit. But considering he's asking 23k and a new el is 23k here minus the trailer and other stuff. I figured he's quite off on price. But what to say is too much to pay for it before going new is where i fall short. Still learning the depreciating value of these units.

Depending on what the trailer is worth, I would 12-15k would be ok. Before you buy, take the machine to an experience truck mount repair guy and run the unit. make sure it has not been frozen. If there are leaks anywhere, that could be an indication that it may have been frozen and small leaks will become big leaks. Ask why he is selling it? Does it make sense. Are you mechanically inclined and can you do the minor repairs and maintenance on this type of unit?

Seems to be asking a very high price for a machine that is 4 years old...hopefully it's the original hour meter. The trailer is basically useless to you so you are going to need a Van. This is just my opinion, but you are asking... I would pass and get a new CDS. Save your cash if you can get low financing.

Ya around that 15k was what I thought, he's selling cause he manages 250 strategy units and he doesnt want to Clean them himself anymore cause he is too busy and doesn't use it enough to justify the price. I come from a farming and oilfield back round so I'm very mechanically enclined. I ran the unit with wand on for about 20 min full heat with no leaks of water, oil, etc. Blower cfm seemed good through vac hose. All in all it seemed fine. Trailer is a small one axle which I would sell, too small. But that 12 to 15k seems more on the money.

If it works good and looks clean and well maintained, I would say no more than 15 and I think that is a little on the high side. You have a good background to understand that type of machinery and that helps a lot. That guy may also be your first customer. If you buy his unit, who is going to clean those 250 strata units? Could be you if you can work out a deal.

Do you have access to the cash to buy it?

It appears he has money but it may be him and a partner in it, you need to figure out if He is actually the decision maker.

Try not to alienate him with your offer. Many of us feel really stupid when we waste a big chunk of money like he has.

He probably has it in his mind that he has lost the value of the trailer but the TM is Like New still.

Some guys are really good at getting screaming deals and making the guy who gave them the deal feel good about it...

Good luck.

From what I gather he got it four years ago at the Vegas trade show and paid 30 all in. He's got money for sure, I got the cash for it no problem, just did not wanna pay for it and realize I got soaked over just going new. I'd prefer to go with a good used machine for the first couple years till I get a better feel for my market.

What he paid or what he has in it isn't really relevant to what its worth now. As nice as it is to have low hours, its also not good to let it sit that long.

Be fair but don't be fooled by low hours and shiny paint.
Ask Zee what he thinks that unit is worth. He may open your eyes some or at least give you some justification for your offer.

Only ask @Zee , if you don't want to buy the unit...........

Those units are good but it's tough for me to find Kero or diesel readily available here in my market.... I spend the coin on propane for heat, because that's what I'm used too...

I know you Canadian's get hosed on buying/importing equipment, I still think there's a better deal out there without all the work of transferring the unit to a van...

Too much money..

I would look at other options for that much.

I paid $13500 for a -supposed - new unit that had 24 hours (demo unit).

He's in Canada I don't think he could get that in Canada for that price. The tax bringing it into the country is where they probably get boned.

A el Diablo here or a Judson here would be less.

This is my advise and my advise only so take it for what it is worth. Up in Canada that trailer will be useless in the winter. The value of a trailer is fairly consistent (at least in my market) so probably looking at $3-5,000 American for the trailer and $15,000 American for the El Diablo. You can certainly offer $15,000 but you may not get it for less than $20,000 because it is so new.
If you are open to options I would look at a Cleanco. They are made there in Calgary, Alberta so you won't be hit with the import tax that American units would have. (that is why the guy paid so much when he bought it, in America it would be $10,000 less for the same setup.) Find a Cleanco dealer in your area or call Lou @ Cleanco and see if they have any used units in the van.

Ya I don't think he thought that's what he'd get offered. Lol. He's probably gonna hold out to see his offers,I told him if got the cash if he comes down to that area but I doubt it, I'm now also looking at a prochem unit, those judson look very good, there set up seems very user friendly, and also looking at a hydramaster.

Ya you really get it on the exchange with the American units, and ya to most everyone that trailer will be useless unless you want a trailer to take your wands in. Ha. I have checked out cleanCo as well, good stuff. Lots of companies make good units, just seeing which I should pull the trigger on, no pun.

I know @Ron Werner ran into government regulation problems with his propane unit... Local laws changed and he wasn't allowed to have as much propane as he carried on board.... His machine and heater was run on propane... He converted it to gas and a Heat Exchanger on it...

I know you didn't mention you were looking at propane, but it's just an FYI if you do...

Used trailers aren't worth much. We have a nice H&H we bought for 7k and its in great shape. I'm hoping to get 3k for it but so far the best offer has been $1,800.00 :eekk:

Don't over value the trailer. They are a dime a dozen regardless of condition.

I would say, if you have $15,000 cash just kicking around, I would look at buying new. That will make a good down payment on a new van and cleaning unit. A cleanco or hydramaster will perform well, especially if you get the extra heat package. This will also establish you with your supplier and they should be able to guide you as to what chemistry you need. Buying used, even in good condition, means minor repairs, learning to wrench on it your self, making needed modifications, etc. Not that you can't do it, but do you really want to.
