Started in 1981 and have a good customer base which keeps me pretty busy throughout the year but wanted to at least make a presence online. Owner/Operator for the last 20 years and have had no advertising at all. This past year started a website just to have a video to show new customers the cleaning procedure and have general information available to current customers. Then got on Google Search for our service area.

There are two pages of Carpet Cleaners on Google Search in our area and I am at the bottom of page 2 (as I would expect) I contacted Google Ads to see how I could move up. The more I read the more I am confused.

All I want is to move up in the local search. Im not really interested in putting ads all over the internet. I get the idea of how it should be done (Pay per click ads create interest to your Website and scheduling is done online) but the intention of my Website isnt to get someone to book a job (actually there is nothing on my website such as Live Chat or Online Scheduling) its just to have an online presence.

Im not going to get caught up in the PPC bidding war - I dont need a whole lot of new customers - just prefer to get onto the first page. So Im looking for suggestions as to how I should proceed.

Thank you.

Your site, although dated, isn't the worst I've ever seen.

Ask yourself what is out there on the internet for google to base increasing your ranking on.

Start with your site. What about it tells google that you are a good result for a particular query? Say "Carpet Cleaning Appleton"
I don't see a lot there other than a few times carpet cleaning is mentioned and a city list in the footer.

Next I don't find your site listed in many places. Find a directory list and make sure you are listed in all of them with info that says "this guy cleans carpet in Appleton". Start with your google my business listing and work your way down.

Google your competitors phone numbers and websites and see where they are listed. Make sure you are there too

Consistency in listings is important but there seems to be a few "versions" of your name out there from your proper name to vesrions of a company name. Make sure every where you are listed has the same info Name Address Phone Website

wait a few weeks after doing so and ask again

and remember everybody would like to be on the front page

Also many of your page links are "under construction", your "reviews" are a single youtube, and nothing above the fold on your homepage says carpet cleaning or where you do it......just a header and video

after that the content is sort of lacking. Just a history lesson and your process

I’ll bet my van is uglier, though.
