Been long time since trained in someone new.

Lots to teach them... Oh my...

Great reminder today about what it takes or will take to train a new guy and give them the opportunity to succeed and really continue to uphold our family and business values.

Training a new guy today.

Haven't replaced our youngest daughter's boyfriend who left for a union job over a year and half ago.

So here is video clip of his first time cleaning or even seeing carpet cleaning!

Better get him used to pushing a traditional wand too. You never know when the zippers will be down and he needs to know how to work (and how hard it is to push) a real wand!

The kid looks great, Mark. Congrats to all.

How did you find him?

Our daughter who works at a pizza joint and used to be one of our lead technicians. She has been working with him for three years. The kid was looking for more work and Jena really liked him so we gave him a try. Kid is doing great already. It's only the second day but he keeps working and hustles. And he likes to work :-)

I cannot tell you how great it is to have a third person again and I am just getting a ton of things done that I never seem to get to otherwise. I should probably listen to my wife more often... Lol

She's been telling me we need more help and we are just so particular.... but we are also very hopeful this will continue to work out.

I guess these means even more vidoes, photos and MB posts.....

Maybe if you cut all that stuff out you wouldn't have needed to hire another person....

Give it time, they're all rock stars when they start. Not trying to be negative, but it seems to me that soon after the honeymoon, they head to the shitter.

There is truth to that statement.....just part of the human factor and people need some changes....

Hopefully we can find a way to also make him feel important on the job, keep him interested, but we also realize he is young and might move on....

But being the educator I am, we hope we can give him some more tools to be successful and reflect back ..... that we helped him....

And when he is a millionaire....remember who made you famous on YouTube....LOL...

I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer Mark, I'm just looking at things realistically, in a lot of cases.I'm head hunting right now, just going through some resumes. One thing I really like is communication skills- some of theses resumes should have been written in crayon. No, it's not a glorious job,but the instant gratification I get from what I do and the positive comments from my customers make it worth the sweat, sore back, insane hours and all the other things we put up with. And damn, I made $2100 in 14 hours on one job yesterday and today - it's a great cash cow.

And most "educated" people don't aspire to be a carpet cleaner. That is what we found when we "head hunted" in traditional ways. Mark has it right by hiring people who you know or already have a job and have the personality and people skill set. There are some fine young folks out there that aren't cut out for a 'white collar job' and will be very happy doing hands on work that many would look down upon. But usually you have to find/seek them out. They rarely come knocking on your door or through a job posting.

We hire for the right personality and verbal and written communication skills. The rest we can teach.

I'm not a "carpet cleaner" - I'm a business man that chooses to make my money by cleaning carpets. One of the best pieces of wisdom ever handed to me. (Jim Darling RIP)
