Thanks Mike for inviting me to mikeys board. I’m looking forward to learning from all that are willing to teach Me. I’m brand new to this side of the industry so please forgive me in advance for any dumb questions that come out of my mouth. I have been installing for 37 years now & recently had a heart attack. My body just can’t do all the heavy lifting anymore so I decided to get into cleaning. I’m not saying cleaning is easy but it will be a lot less physical on me. So with that being said I’m looking forward to learning & building relationships & friendships here. I’m signed up for Tomas Cermak class & I plan on attending Mikey fest In Nashville, so hopefully I’ll meet a lot of you there. Thank you in advance for responding & helping me grow my knowledge & business in this new chapter of my life. Anthony

sorry to hear of the heart attack
But have to ask, what makes you think carpet cleaning is easier than wrenching?
Have you done any at all?

Up and down steps, dragging hoses in and out, moving and tabbing furniture is pretty physical
and if you get talked into the "board de jour wand", sounds like you need to choke it down with a hole glide or restricted hoses or it's a mankiller to push.... and your 50-60 year old shoulders will be screaming in a year or two

My Magic 8 Ball suggests you need a wingman helper either in the shop or on the carpet wagon if you're changing jobs....

NICE!

Anthony bought a new 370 yesterday from a retailer who was less than helpful in helping him know how to run and maintain the unit as the mechanic was a lawn mower guy last week.

Sadly that's they way things are now for suppliers. Having a mechanic/installer that knows how to clean is a unicorn...

guess I'm coRnfuzed

Tony, welcome
I'm an azzhole, but a caring one..... so don't take offense with me being me...

were you an independent TM installer ?
One could presume 37 years of install also included some repair/wrenching on them??
Maintenance and care even on even a unfamiliar TM shouldn't be much of a challenge for you

IF you worked for a distributor, did they dik you or what?

even though less physical than install...
Near 40 years of install, he's in his mid 50s at least
as you're finding out now.....mid 50s is when that body wear 'n tear starts to become something not so easy disregard and blow thru like at 45 and even 50

MY suggestion...He fly down and get with Bob Pruitt for a week or two ...go "hi-roller" biz model

I thought he meant truckmount installer too. I wondered why lawnmowerman had to show him anything. I know installing isn't repair but you should have an edge over the average cleaner.

Welcome. Purchase a rotary. Trex Jr. or 360i. Had them all, I recommend the Trex Jr.

Anthony, at Nashville find out how to target a specific, lucrative market. If you can do one job a day (until your heart strengthens), you can still pull $2000+ a week.
waste your time competing for lowball jobs and you die broke. I wish I could come too, it is only five hours away.

Hey Larry! I’m the 2.633334% who can out clean you with a porty, ya buckeyed knob!

I’m sorry should have been clearer. I’m a Floor Installer. Yes I’m hoping to do lots of repairs until I can learn more about cleaning.

Charlotte is definitely a great area to go high end. I'm in a part of N.C. where there is some high end but not enough to keep food on the table. I'm mostly in the middle to upper market. Lots of broke middle class people who bought more house than they can afford and won't pay $50 a room for cleaning. It's not easy work by any means but if you learn to schedule yourself so that you can work at a leisurely pace you'll be good. Good luck to Ya!
